Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala has taken the tennis world by storm, proving she can go toe-to-toe with elite WTA top-10-talents.

Her latest victim is World No. 8 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarter final round of WTA 500 Berlin early Saturday (Manila time).

The Pinay campaigner took a 3-0 commanding lead after her Ukrainian rival struggled with unforced errors.

Svitolina bounced back winning the fourth game to cut the lead at 3-1 count, but Eala maintained control with powerful baseline hitting and confident grass-court tennis to move ahead 4-1.

The Ukrainian bet answered by cutting down on her mistake and breaking serve to close the match to 4-3.

However, Eala again got the momentum, breaking back from a 40-15 deficit to take a 5-3 lead before serving out the set, 6-3.

After Svitolina fought back and leveled the score at 2-2 after securing a break of serve, Eala maintained her composure controlling the game at 5-2 count winning three straight games.

The Ukrainian managed to fight back and closed the match at 5-4, but Eala never looked back winning the last match to seal the 6-4 victory .

Eala will face Linda Noskova of Czech Republic in the semi-final round, who brought down Paula Badosa of Spain, 6-1, 6-3.-Marlon Bernardino-
