DC Eagles routs Perfect, 5-1 in R5

DAVAO Chess Eagles routed Perfect, 5-1 in Round 5 of the FIDE World Team Rapid & Blitz Chess Team Championships yesterday, June 18 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong.

IM Kim Steven Yap pounded Victor Kurochkin in Board 1.

Other victories were scored by Aglipay Oberio, lawyer Jose Dionisio Guevarra, Mary Israel Palero and Glenna Sayson Paclar.

Oberio thumped Ketevan Arakhamia-Grant, Guevarra smashed Mikhail Pleshkoy, Palero pounded Elena Nekrasova and Paclar pummeled Valeriu Mindru

Only Randy Segarra lost to Gennadie Slavin in B2.

The DC Eagles bowed to Malaysia Chess Hub, 2-4 and the Caissa Hong Kong Chess Club, 3 ½-2 ½ in the next two rounds.

Meanwhile, Dragon Chilling took the solo lead with 12 points after seven games.

Dragon Chilling nipped Kazchess, 3 1/2-2 ½ in Round 5 despite Board 1’s GM Liren Ding losing to GM Richard Rapport.

Dragon Chilling then tied Endgane.A1, 3-3 and Team MGD1, 3-3.

Tied in second place with 11 points are Kazchess, Team MGD1 and Chessgurukul.

Third with 10 points are Mr Birdie and friends, Endgame.A1, WR Chess and Barys.
