Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez eyes five squads in JCI Senate Lipa 3X3 Open Rapid Chess Tournament on June 20

Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) National Past President Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez will field five teams in the JCI Senate Lipa 3X3 Open Rapid Chess Tournament dubbed as The Mind Masters Cup to be held on June 20, 2026 at Lasca, Barangay Dagatan, Lipa City, Batangas.

Engr. Alvarez said among his players who will represent their respective teams are International Master Angelo Young, National Master Louie Salvador, National Master Gerald Ferriol, Alexis Emil Maribao, Narquingel Reyes, Apollo Agapay, Engr. Bren Sasot, John Lee Antonio, Norman Madariaga, Raynold Roces, Joshua Hesed Crismo, John Paulo Ferriol, Jose Piff Caumban and Lorenze Angelo Guerra.

The team champion will earn P50,000, the second will receive P30,000, the third place will pocket P20,000, the fourth will take home P10,000 and the fifth will bring home P5,000.

Sixth to 10th place will receive P3,000 each.

"We hope to do well in this event," said Engr. Alvarez is known as “Coach Pat Riley” in the Philippine Chess.

Engr. Alvarez is also team manager of PCAP's IIEE-PSME- Quezon City Simba's Tribe.

It shall be recalled Engr. Alvarez together with Engr. Norberto de Jesus teamed up in the pandemic time by organizing an online chess tournament.

Until right now, Engr. Alvarez is still busy organizing IIEE online chess tournament as well as the over the board chess tournament.

The 1-day event, jointly organized by JCI Lipa and JCI Senate Lipa in close cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Lipa City headed by it's Mayor Eric Africa features chess simultaneous exhibition games of grandmasters Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., Darwin Laylo and Daniel Quizon, open rapid team tatluhan tournament and under 16 and below.
