Itauma vs. Franklin
ITAUMA marches on as he demolishes FRANKLIN with a brutal one-punch finish in the fifth round. It was obvious from the start that Itauma had the quicker hands and Franklin was going to be fighting a defensive fight. Itauma was coming forward probing with right jabs looking for openings and was connecting with some quick lefts as he tried to bring Franklin’s hands down. He landed a couple nice punches as he trapped Frankin against the ropes. Itauma continued to take the fight to Franklin in the second again throwing plenty of right jabs. There was very little coming back from a defensive Franklin and Itauma pierced his guard with two lefts and when Franklin stood and exchanged punches a left hook snapped his head back.
Franklin showed a brief spell of fire at the start of the third throwing a few punches but it did not last long as Itauma easily slipped them and went back to working with his jab and keeping Franklin under pressure. Itauma continued to come forward in the fourth and just before the bell a fast right to the head sent Franklin sprawling on the canvas. He was up quickly and there was not enough time for Itauma to build on that. Itauma upper the pressure in the fifth and a booming left uppercut had Franklin out on his feet and he was clipped by a right and ended face down on the canvas with the referee immediately signalling the fight was over. Itauma was defending the WBA International and WBO Inter-Continental titles and he is rated No 1 by both bodies. He is likely to return to action in July against an as yet unnamed opponent. First inside the distance defeat for Franklin who had gone the distance against Dillian White and Anthony Joshua and although not very active was coming off a points win over unbeaten Ivan Dychko in September.
Hutchinson vs. Taylor
HUTCHINSON puts on a boxing master class as he outboxes TAYLOR on the way to a wide unanimous decision .The opening two rounds were close with Hutchinson switching guards in the first and being just that bit quicker just edging the round. Taylor worked well with his jab in the second and connected with a hard right looking to have done enough to even things up. Hutchinson’s superior skills then saw him take control. Taylor was coming forward but Hutchinson was changing guards, slipping Taylor’s leads pickling him off with counters and landing short hooks inside. Taylor pressed hard but just could not pin Hutchinson down and Hutchinson who was content to drop both hands and use smart upper body movement to bob and weave around Taylor’s attacks. Taylor stuck to his task but too often was left swishing the air and leaving himself open to quick hooks from Hutchinson. He just did not have an answer to the constant movement and tricks of Hutchinson and Hutchinson’s hand speed allowed him to fire punches through Taylor’s guard and not be there when Taylor tried to counter. It was almost a boxing class so no highlights but a thoroughly professional show from Hutchinson. Scores 98-92 twice and 99-91. Hutchinson dropped a split decision against Joshua Buatsi in a fight for the WBO interim title in 2024. He was then out for almost eleven months before impressing with a seventh round win over Markl Jeffers in October. He won the WBA Continental and vacant WBO Global titles tonight. Taylor just could not cope with the wily Hutchinson but with more experience could become a force.
Davies vs. Grandelli
DAVIES beats substitute GRANDELLI on a sixth round retirement. Davies, the bigger and stronger man, was already landing heavily in the first round rocking Italian Grandelli with a righty and starting a swelling under his left eye. Davies continued to apply pressure over the second and third driving home hurtful body punches and then flooring Grandelli late in the fourth with a left hook. Grandelli made it through the round but with restricted vision and Davies constant body attacks he soaked up steady punishment in the fifth and sixth and his team wisely pulled him out at the end of the sixth. Davies wins the vacant European title and takes Grandfelli’s WBO Inter-Continental featherweight title to add to the IBO and European belts he collected at super bantam. His loss came against Shabaz Masoud in a defence of his IBO title. Grandelli had been beaten by Cristobal Lorente in previous shot at the European feather belt and lacked the power to match Davies.
Pauls vs. Thompson
A shock result sees PAULS lose every round before stopping THOMPSON in the ninth. Thompson was a huge favourite to win this one and he dominated from the start. At 6’3” southpaw Thompson had plenty of height and reach over Pauls jabbing strongly and accurately and finding the target with lefts. A left to the body in the third visibly shook Pauls and apart from some right counters Pauls just wasn’t in the fight. Thompson continued to boss the action over the middle rounds and it looked to be a case of whether Pauls could last the distance rather than who would win. Thompson continued to find the target with jabs and body shots. He had won the eight completed rounds and looked to be stepping up his pace seeking a stoppage. At the beginning of the ninth Pauls suddenly landed a right to the head and Thompson stumbled back and his legs quivered. He grabbed Pauls trying to hold but Pauls landed three rights and Thompson tumbled to the floor. He stood up immediately and walked to a corner whilst the referee issued a count. After the count Thompson dived forward grabbing Pauls but Pauls shook him off and had Thompson reeling under punches sending him down to the canvas again with the referee waving the fight over. A huge shock and a disaster for Thompson. With both the IBF title and the No 1 spot in their ratings vacant it was anticipated that No 2 Etinosa Oliha and No 3 Thompson would fight for the vacant title but this result ruins that plan. Pauls won the vacant IBF International tittle in this fight but was unrated so it seems unlikely he will be allowed to jump into a title fight so Ireland’s Aaron McKenna could get the chance.
Warburton vs. Heaney
WARBURTON comes from behind to win a unanimous verdict over HEANEY. Heaney made the better start scoring well with his jabs and using plenty of right hands against southpaw Warburton and landing some useful body punches. Although the rounds were close Heaney was doing the better work and looked to have swept the first four rounds. Warburton finally began to roll from the fifth bloodying Heaney’s nose and scoring with accurate shots from both hands. Heaney tried to force the pace in the sixth but was walking onto counters from Warburton. Warburton took over the fight gradually eating into the early lead Heaney had established. Heaney rallied briefly but Warburton completed the turn around by taking the ninth and tenth and the decision. Scores 97-93 twice and 98-92. Warburton a good winner but the scores just a bit too wide.
Gomez vs. Flynn
GOMEZ successfully relaunches his career with a stoppage of FLYNN. Gomez took the fight to Flynn from the outset forcing Flynn to stand and exchange punches with Gomez getting the better of the exchanges. Flynn was willing to do the same again in the second but a series of punches in the third had him in trouble and the referee stopped the fight. First fight for former English champion Gomez since losing to Reece Bellotti in a challenge for the British and Commonwealth super feather titles in February last year. Flynn was stopped in seven rounds by Cameron Vuong in a fight for the vacant WBO European title in March last year.
Birchall vs. Griffiths
BIRCHALL wins the vacant English title with a ninth round stoppage of GRIFFITHS. This was a fast-paced competitive fight with the heavier punching from Birchall the divider. Griffiths tried to get on the front foot and had some success but Birchall consistently found the target with straight lefts and Griffiths was having to fight hard to stay in the fight. Birchall ended it in the ninth. A left to the body hurt Griffiths and Birchall then cut loose with a ferocious attack and had Griffiths about to fall when the referee stopped the fight. Birchall, a former World Youth bronze medallist, gets his eighth win by KO/TKO. Griffiths had drawn two of his last three fights both draws for the BBB of C Midlands title.
Holmes vs. Murphy
HOLMES scores a dramatic first round win over MURPHY. It was Murphy who looked on his way to a win when he nailed Holmes with three rights to the head. Holmes staggered back to the ropes and dipped at the knees. He stayed up and withstood some more heavy punches then hammered home a right of his own sending Murphy down on his back. Murphy beat the count but a left hook dumped him in a corner. He struggled to his feet but was unsteady and the fight was stopped.

LAS VEGAS. NV, USA: SUPER WELTER: SEBASTIAN FUNDORA (24-1-1) W TKO 6 KEITH THURMAN (31-2-1). SUPER WELTER: YOENIS TELLEZ (12-1) W PTS 10 BRIAN MENDOZA (23-5). MIDDLE: YOENLI HERNANDEZ W TKO (10-0) TERRELL GAUSHA (24-6-1). HEAVY: GURGEN HOVHANNISYAN (10-0) W TKO 5 CESAR NAVARRO (15-4). SUPER MIDDLE: KEVIN NEWMAN II (19-3-1) W PTS 10 ELIJAH GARCIA (17-2). LIGHT: KAIPO GALLEGOS (12-0-1 W PTS 10 JULIAN GONZALEZ (16-2-1)

Fundora vs. Thurman
Fundora dismantles Thurman in six rounds.
Fundora was 9” taller than Thurman with an 11” longer reach. He put those advantages to work immediately spearing Thurman with a right jab and firing home a straight left. Thurman circled Fundora seeking a chance to dart past Fundora’s jab to get inside and he briefly did with a couple of hooks. A second charge from Thurman was less successful and again he was just circling. Fundora reached Thurman with a jab and a straight left doing just enough to win a low output round.
In the second Fundora caught Thurman with a left as he tried to move in and also landed another long left as he let his hands go more. Thurman was still just circling Fundora without seeing a chance to get inside and Fundora connected with a straight left then easily stepped away from Thurman’s lunges.
Fundora was looking to close Thurman down in the third throwing more jabs and looking to get though with his left. He connected with a couple and then forced Thurman to exchange shots and landed a couple more lefts. The fight was resembling a race with Thurman running around the ropes with Fundora following him and firing punches when he could cut Thurman off. Fundora’s corner had told him to throw more punches and he connected with a left early in the fourth then landed a pair of hooks. He then began to take a step closer and fired home a series of lefts as Thurman was stuck on the outside unable to find a way past Fundora’s jab. Thurman launched a quick attack at the start of the fifth landing a hard straight right but it was then back to Thurman circling the ring as Fundora followed him firing jabs. Fundora began to open up more in the fifth and he scored with a burst of hooks and then exploded with a series of punches from both hands with Thurman missing widely with a counter. Thurman was leaving himself open with his wild swings and Fundora stepped in and again fired home a series of hooks. Fundora then drove him back with a sustained barrages of punches at the bell.
The doctor examined Thurman before the start of the sixth but the fight continued. It was a hopeless task for Thurman. Fundora was driving Thurman back connecting with sweeping hooks Thurman’s face was a mess with blood dripping from a cut under his left eye and as Fundora drove him across the ring under an array of punches the referee came in and stopped the fight. Fundora was making the third defence of the WBC title and was inviting all comers to try their luck. At 37 and with only one fight in the previous four years Thurman had enough handicaps without the huge physical advantages enjoyed by Fundora. Hopefully he will go back into retirement.
Tellez vs. Mendoza
TELLEZ fights through the pain of a nose injury to win a unanimous decision over Fundora’s conqueror MENDOZA.  A round of study for both fighters resulted in a quiet, close opener. Tellez picked up the pace in the second using some sharp jabbing to put Mendoza on the back foot. Tellez looked to be getting into the groove in the third when as they came together Mendoza’s head smashed into Tellez’s face busting his nose. Tellez turned away and dropped to the canvas with blood pouring from his nose. He was given some recovery time but with such a painful injury it would have been understandable if he had refused to continue which would have resulted in a no decision. Instead Tellez chose to fight on. The injury made a good target for Mendoza in the fourth but Tellez rallied and had a good fifth. The sixth and seventh saw Tellez quicker and busier alternating his work to head and body. Mendoza was jabbing strongly down the middle forcing Tellez to be a bit more defensive and both rounds were close. A clash of heads in the eighth saw Mendoza cut over his left eye. Tellez’s body punching had slowed Mendoza by the ninth and he drilled an uppercut through Mendoza’s guard that snapped Mendoza’s head back. Tellez boxed his way through the tenth firing jabs through Mendoza’s guard with Mendoza looking for one big punch but not finding it allowing Tellez to take the round. Scores 97-93 twice and 98-92 for Tellez. The 25-year-old Cuban has rebounded well from his loss to Abass Baraou for the WBA interim title in August. He is No 5 with the WBA and will be looking to work his way into a title fight. Mendoza knocked out Fundora in a fight for the interim WBC title in 2023 but that was followed by losses to Tim Tszyu for the WBO title and in 2024 to Serhii Bohachuk for the interim WBC belt. He is way down the pecking order now and has a mountain to climb.
Hernandez vs. Gausha
Cuban HERNANDEZ stops veteran GAUSHA in four rounds. The 6’2” Hernandez went after Gausha from the opening bell. He used his extra height to pierce Fausha’s guard with jabs and worked Gausha’s body over with left hooks upping the pressure throughout the round. Gausha tried to hold Hernandez off with jabs in the second but Hernandez walked through them to land savage shots to Gausha’s body. He continued to drive Gausha around the ring in the third brushing aside Gausha’s attempts to keep him out and working Gausha over against the ropes. Gausha made an attempt to hold the centre of the ring in the fourth but was forced back by body punches. A left to the head caused Gausha to stumble and when Hernandez landed another one the referee stepped in and stopped the fight. It was Gausha’s first inside the distance loss and considering his experience the stoppage looked premature but the ending was already predictable. Ninth win by KO/TKO for the 28-year-old Hernandez and he picks up the WBO NABO title. He is a double World amateur champion and defected during a stopover in Panama on the way back from his second world title win in May 2023. He is well-schooled boxer and has real power and is a real threat in the division. He is No 1 with the WBA and No 4 with both the WBC and WBO. Third loss in a row for Gausha, 38, who just failed to make the weight for this WBO NABO title fight. He has lost in world title fights against Erislandy Lara and Carlos Adames but no mention of retirement.
Hovhannisyan vs. Navarro
Armenian HOVHANNISYAN stops Mexican NAVARRO in the fifth. Hovhannisyan was 4” taller and a massive 71 lbs heavier than Navarro, The Armenian worked steadily behind his jab with Navarro having problems getting close enough to score and was relying on leaping overhand rights. Hovhannisyan gradually took control as he padded forward behind his jab and landed clubbing rights. In the fifth Navarro was just soaking up punishment and not punching back and the fight was stopped. As an amateur Hovhannisyan, 28, scored a win over Jose Larduet and only lost to Bakhodir Jalolov on a split decision but may just be too slow to make it as a professional. Navarro started out as a welterweight but is about 37 lbs heavier these days.
Newman vs. Garcia
NEWMAN wins a majority decision over GARCIA. Over the first three rounds Garcia tried to put Newman under pressure but he found the clever Roy Jones protégé a difficulty target and Newman outworked him and was more accurate with his punches. Newman then seemed to go off the boil and Garcia was able to work his way into the fight. Joines raged at Newman which had the desired effect as Newman picked up his pace and edged back into the lead. Newman connected with a sustained bunch of punces in the seventh. Garcia was looking to stage a big finish and he scored with good lefts and rights in the exchanges in the eighth and ninth with Newman just having enough left to take the tenth. Scores 98-92 and 96-94 for Newman and 95-95 which were harsh on Garcia. Eighth win in a row for Newman. First fight for a year for Garcia who had taken a split decision against Terrell Gausha in March last year.
Gallegos vs. Gonzalez
A youthful GALLEGOS overcomes an early knockdown to win a unanimous decision over GONZALEZ. The 20-year-old southpaw showed quick hands as he was busier than Gonzalez over two competitive rounds., He was putting together some smart combinations in the third but Gonzalez was defending well and then fired a straight right to the heads that sent Gallegos down heavily. He climbed up immediately but was wobbly and after the count he grabbed desperately at Gonzalez getting a warning for holding and made it to the bell with the referee following him back to his corner to check on him. The fourth was close as Gallegos recovered from that near disaster and then began to dominate from the fifth. He was putting Gonzalez under pressure moving forward scoring with combinations to head and body. Gonzalez continued to be dangerous with right counters but was consistently forced to fight on the back foot. Gallegos continually pierced Gonzalez’s guard with fast lefts and simply outworked Gonzalez to take the decision on scores of 97-92 twice and 98-91. After an early career draw Gallegos, a former US Youth champion, has won 11 in a row. Gonzalez suffers his second consecutive loss.

MARCH 25

MONTREAL, CANADA: HEAVY: ALEXIS BARRIERE (13-1) W TKO 7 ROBERT SIMMS (12-6-1). WELTER : MAZIUM AKDENIZ (23-0) W TKO 4 STUART MCLELLAN (31-6-3,1 ND).
Barriere vs. Simms
Canadian heavyweight hope BARRIERE returned to action with a win as he stopped SIMMS in the seventh round of their fight. Southpaw Barrière was returning to action for the first time since suffering a fifth round kayo loss against Guido Vianello in October. He boxed cautiously over the first five rounds with a very defensive Simms making it a poor fight. Barrière picked up the pace in the sixth and in the seventh had Simms trapped in a corner and under heavy fire when the referee stopped the fight. The 6’4” southpaw makes it 11 wins by KO/TKO.
Akdeniz vs. McLellan
Kurdish/Canadian AKDENIZ improved to 23-0 with a fourth round stoppage McLELLAN. A sweet victory for Akdeniz as McLellan had issued racial insults at Akdeniz and spat on him before and during the fight. Akdeniz dominated the fight from the start and drove McLellan to a corner in the fourth and unloaded punches until the referee came in to stop the fight. Tenth inside the distance win for Akdeniz who will be looking to break into the ratings this year.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY: VIKTOR VYKHRYST (18-1) W PTS 10 MARIUSZ WACH (39-13).
VYKHRYST has an easy night as he wins every round against WACH in defence of the WBO European title. The 6’5” Ukrainian scored heavily in every round against the 6’7 ½” Pole and shook him a few times but Wach lasted the distance. Scores 100-90 twice and 100-88. Vykhryst, 33, has now won 7 in a row since a loss to Lenier Pero in 2023. Wach, 46, says he will fight until he is 50.

MARCH 27

CAEN, FRANCE: SUPER MIDDLE: KEVIN LELE SADJO (28-1) W TKO 8 ALAA AL MAHMOUD (12-1). SUPER WELTER: VICTOR YOKA (9-0) W PTS 8 MIGUEL VASQUEZ (6-5).
Sadjo vs. Al Mahmoud
SADJO crushes unbeaten Syrian AL MAHMOUD in eight rounds. With slick movement and use of his longer reach Al Mahmoud posed some problems for Sadjo over the first three rounds. The power and relentless pressure from Sadjo then ground Al Mahmoud down and his discipline disappeared with him being warned for various infraction over the sixth and seventh. A series of punches from Sadio put Al Mahmoud down on his back in the eighth and although he made it to his feet he was unsteady and the referee stopped the fight. Second win for Sadjo since losing on points against Diego Pacheco in December. Sadjo wins the vacant WBA Continental title.
Yoka vs. Vasquez
Former undefeated French super welter champion YOKA marks time with an undemanding win over Colombian VASQUEZ. Yoka, the younger brother of heavyweight Tony, won on scores of 80-72 on all three cards.

NONTHABURI, THAILAND: FEATHER: SATHAPORN SAART (18-3) W PTS 10 SHIKI KAWAMURA( 6-5). SUPER FLY: THANANCHAI CHARUNPHAK (30-2) W PTS 8 REYMARK ALICABA (10-11).
Saart vs. Kawamura
Thai SAART makes a successful defence of the WBC Asian belt with a victory over Japan’s KAWAMURA. Saart set a fast pace and novice Kawamura could not stay with it and despite a brave effort he faded badly over the late rounds with Saart winning on scores of 97-93 twice and 98-92 . First defence of the title for Saart who had lost a technical decision against Luis Nery in October. Kawamura tried hard but was just an overmatched, unrated novice.
Charunphak vs. Alicaba
CHARUNPHAK wins an eight round decision over Filipino ALICABA. The visitor proved to be a tougher opponent than expected. Over the early rounds he was firing rapid combinations through Charunphak’s defence. He was also leaving himself open to counters but kept banging back. He just could not stop Charunphak matching forward and tired late but gave Charunphak eight competitive rounds. Scores 78-74 for Charunphak on all three cards. Only one loss his last 29 fights for Charunphak and that was in a challenge for the WBA flyweight title against Seigo Yuri Akui for the WBA flyweight title. Alicaba had lost 5 of his last 6 fights and it should have been easy for Charunphak but Alicaba did not get the message.

DONCASTER, ENGLAND: WELTER: JOE HAYDEN (22-0) W TKO 2 James Atkins (9-1).
Unbeaten local southpaw HAYDEN wins his first title and hands ATKINS his first loss as he collects the vacant Commonwealth Silver belt. After dominating the first round Hayden unleashed a storm of head shots that had Atkins reeling and about to go down when the referee stepped in. Hayden was moving up to ten rounds for the first time and gets his third inside the distance victory.

HOUSTON, TX, USA: CRUISER: EFETOBOR APOCHI (14-3) W PTS 10 DARIEL DUQUESNE (14-1,1ND).
Houston-based Nigerian APOCHI wins a majority decision over tall Cuban DUQUESNE in a fight for the vacant NABF title. Apochi 38, had to overcome the 6’” height edge and longer reach of the hard punching Cuban ( 6 1st round victories) and won on scores of 96-94 twice and 95-95. Apochi scored a win over Jai Opetaia at the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Of his three losses two have come on split decisions, one of those against Brandon Glanton, and a majority decision against Cheavon Clarke.

MARCH 28

NEUWIED, GERMANY: CRUISER: SOTIRIOS GEORGIKEAS (26-1) W TKO 2 RICARDO RAMALLO (22-17-1).
Gernan-born Greek GEORGIKEAS extends his run of inside the distance wins to 18 with a second round stoppage of RAMALLO. After losing to a fighter with a 0-1 record in 2015 all opponents for 47-year-old Georgikeas have been carefully vetted to avoid any similar banana skins. Argentinian Ramallo, 42, is now 1-8 in his last 9 fights

SAN ROQUE, SPAIN: SUPER BANTAM: TYRONE BUTTIGIEG (12-0) W PTS 12 SAURABH KUMAR ( 15-3-1).
Gibraltar-based BUTTIGIEG wins the vacant Commonwealth and WBC International titles with a split decision mover KUMAR. A hard-fought close contest with Buttigieg just deserving the decision but having to survive a last round knockdown. Scores 114-113 twice for Buttigieg and 115-112 for Kumar

LONG BEACH, CA, USA: LIGHT: RENE TELLEZ (23-5) W RTD 6 MALIEK MONTGOMERY (20-3). FEATHER: BRYAN ACOSTA (21-2) W PTS 10 RONNY RIOS (34-6).
Tellez vs. Montgomery
TELLEZ beats MONTGOMERY on a sixth round retirement. Tellez put Montgomery down in the first and sixth with body punches and Montgomery did not come out for the seventh. Fourteen inside the distance wins for Mexican Tellez whose losses have come against quality opposition such as Floyd Schofield and Eduardo Hernandez. Third defeat on the bounce for Montgomery.
Acosta vs. Rios
ACOSTA wins a wide unanimous verdict over veteran RIOS. Acosta was just too young and strong and outworked Rios. Relentless pressure wore Rios down and although he was dangerous at times he was well beaten. Scores 99-91 twice and 98-92 for Acosta who was coming off an upset stoppage loss against Sulaiman Segawa in September. Rios, 36, was having his first fight since October 2024 when he was stopped in ten rounds by Nick Ball in a challenge for the WBA featherweight title.

BEVERLY, MA, USA: MIDDLE: FRANCIS HOGAN (22-0) W DISQ 5 PATRICK ALLOTEY (45-11).
HOGAN  gets an unsatisfactory win when Ghanaian ALLOTEY is disqualified for kneeing Hogan in the head. Not the way he would have wanted to win but Hogan retains the NABF title.
