GM Laylo faces tough competition in Caloocan rapid chess

Grandmaster Darwin Laylo, FIDE Master Christopher Castellano and National Master Jose "Jojo" Aquino expect tough sailing in the Mobile Chess Bus Open Tournament (Rapid format) on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Kai Mall, Almar, Zabarte, Caloocan City.

"It will be a very tough match against the Metro Manila woodpushers alongside chess players in nearby provinced who will participate," said GM Laylo.

Others competing are Bulacan Juniors and UST Varsity chess players headed by Allan Gabriel Hilario and Vince Duane Pascual, SJDM Juniors Cyrus Luis Mahawan and David Leonard Azuela, RP Under 11 No. 1 Marcus Louise Jacutina, 5-time Baguio Kiddies Champion Floyd Devon Jacutina, Palarong Pambansa and Kamatyas Kiddie Champion John Randell Peralta, Bataan Rising Kid Star Anstrong Galilei Sundiam, SJDM Woodpusher Ricky Echala and Isaac Atayde, FEU Ace player FM John Merill Jacutina, Mapua Junior Varsity Robi Ocampo, Bulacan kid hopeful Leandro Sese among others.

The one day, 7-round Swiss System, 15 minutes plus 3 seconds time control format is jointly organized by Mr. Michael Linde and Mr. Thyrone Jacutina.

All three divisions will play in one unified tournament, giving Kiddies and 2050 players a chance to face our masters and even win multiple major awards.

The Open Division, 2050 and below and the kiddies 12 years old and below top notcher will receive P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000 plus trophies, respectively.
