Home hero Jayson Shaw lit up Day Two of the 2025 UK Open Pool Championship, storming into Winners’ Qualification with a pair of dominant wins as he sets his sights on a maiden UK Open title in front of the passionate Telford crowd.

Returning to the Telford International Centre for its fourth edition, the UK’s premier pool event runs from May 6–11, with the first four days streamed exclusively on WNT TV, before the final stages are broadcast live on Sky Sports across the UK & Ireland.

Eagle Eye Shaw opened his campaign in commanding fashion, dispatching American Rick Miller 9-2 before cruising to a 9-1 victory over the Romanian Giant, Cristian Surdea, to keep his title hopes firmly on track.

Shaw commented: “I’m feeling good about my game. I’ve been playing well over the last six months—going deep in tournaments—but just haven’t quite finished strong. I know that’s going to change. I can feel it coming. It’s just around the corner, so I’m staying confident and keeping the momentum going.”

On the other side of the draw, last year’s Mosconi Cup captain Skyler Woodward marked his return to the World Nineball Tour with two equally emphatic performances. The American dropped just two racks across the day, defeating Adam Clarke 9-2 before completing a clinical 9-0 whitewash over Romania’s Dorin Iusan.

Woodward’s teammate Billy Thorpe faced a different fate. After an early defeat to Dean Shields on Day One, Thorpe was sent to the Losers’ Bracket where he faced Canada’s John Morra in the following day. Despite a spirited effort, the American bowed out of the competition following a devastating 8-5 loss in a tough battle.

Vietnam’s leading man Duong Quoc Hoang impressed once again in Telford, posting back-to-back 9-4 wins over Nils Johanning and Szymon Kural to continue his run and join Reyes Cup teammates Aloysius Yapp and Carlo Biado. Making a splash on debut, AJ Manas—nicknamed the Starboy—lived up to the billing with two big wins over Steve Boyle and Hsieh Chia Chen, advancing to Winners’ Qualification with confidence.

Another junior champion making his debut, Mika Van Berkel showcased nerves of steel on Day Three, grinding out back-to-back hill-hill victories. The young Dutchman first edged past Meshaal Alali in a tense decider, before repeating the feat in dramatic fashion against Bosnia’s Sanjin Pehlivanovic.

Despite a dominant win in his opening match, former world champion Niels Feijen was knocked into the Losers’ Bracket after a 9-5 defeat to Chinese Taipei’s Lin Ta Li. Facing elimination, 'The Terminator' dug deep in his next match against Abdullah Alenzi. Trailing 6-4 and staring down an early exit, Feijen mounted a gritty comeback to prevail 8-6 and keep his tournament hopes alive.

As the stakes continue to rise, Day Three promises more drama as players fight for a spot in the single elimination stage of the UK Open.
