Vayson (L) puts the pressure on Marbaniang.
BANGKOK, Thailand – World-ranked Light Flyweight Jayson Vayson (13-1-1, 7 KOs) of Agusan del Sur, Philippines, stopped strong, big-heart Indian fighter Shanborlang Marbaniang (5-3-2, 3 KOs) in nine chapters of blow-by-blow action to claim the vacant ABF (Asian Boxing Federation) Light Flyweight Belt on Thrusday, September 26, at the SpacePlus Club in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand.
After an uneventful first round, Vayson quickly speed things up, dropping his opponent to the canvas in round two, displaying superior firepower and skills.
From then on, Vayson kept his foot on the accelerator. However, Marbaniang, 24, proved to be a worthy opponent replying fire with tough counter-attacks that landed solid on the world-ranked Filipino boxer.
On several occasions, the fighters landed at each other with tough, but non-intentional low blows, for which the Thai third man gave minutes of recovery. However, no points were deducted.
Near the end of round nine, Vayson caught the retreating Marbaniang with a damaging combination on the Indian's blue corner, rocking him down to the canvas, prompting the referee Mr. Kris Sanyadej to wave the fight off.
Ranked by all four major sanctioning bodies, the 26-year-old Vayson has claimed his third regional championship belt, improving his standing in the world rankings, while inching closer to a possible world title shot.
Jayson Vayson of the Philippines claims the vacant ABF Light Flyweight Belt by stopping durable Shanborlang Marbaniang of India on September 26 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The soft-spoken Jayson Vayson is currently ranked WBC #13, WBA #8, IBF #3 and WBO #5 in the Light Flyweight Division.
The WBA, WBC, and WBO Light Flyweight world titles have been vacant since July after former champs Kenshiro Teraji of Japan and Jonathan Gonzalez of Puerto Rico relinquished belts to move up to Flyweights. The IBF champion is Sivenathi Nontshinga of South Africa.
The 26-year-old Vayson is also the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific Champion after defeating strong Ryuya Yamanaka (山中竜也, 20-4, 7 KOs) last December in Yamanaka's home City of Kobe.
Jayson Vayson's hard-fought knockout win over Shanborlang Marbaniang was a promotion of Filipino promoter Mr. Brico Santig of Highland Boxing in association with Japanese international matchmaker Mr. Ulysses Sato Goro (佐藤悟朗) of Major Ring Management.
