Pinoy warriors Bangoyan and Gadapan have tough nuts to crack this Saturday in Mexico.
In the card's main event, semi-retired Filipino Super Featherweight Balweg Bangoyan (R, top photo) will lace on Cleto Reyes gloves for a rugged battle for the WBC Fecarbox belt against unbeaten hard-hitting Mexican Adri?n "El Diamante" Estrella (16-0, 16 KO's) this Saturday March 29 (Sunday morning in the Philippines) at El Casino Apodaca in Nuevo Le?n, M?xico.
The clash appears to be an extremely thorny mission for the shorter 27-year-old Bangoyan, who returned to boxing after one full year of absence.
Bangoyan's last two outings were back-to-back defeats, one in Perth, Australia, in 2012, followed by another loss in March 2013 in Para?aque, Metro Manila. Bagoyan has lost 8 of his last 11 fights.
Now, after one year away from the ring, Bangoyan reappears against a fearsome hard-hitting slugger in Mexico, and this enterprise seem too rough for the brave Davae?o.
In sharp contrast, the Mexican Adrian "The Diamond" Estrella has battled a total of 16 times since his debut in 2010, having knocked out all his opponents 16-in-a-row... and wants more.
The logic question that pops into anyone's mind is:
Did the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Commissioner issued a "GAB Letter of Authority" for boxer Bangoyan to travel to Mexico to be in the ring against this tiger?
If a letter of Authority was issued, then to some observers that could be really baffling. In addition, fans might wonder if boxer Balweg Bangoyan has a valid GAB boxing license.
Moreover, in the past, Filipino boxers must have won his last two fights to qualify for a fight abroad. Probably this old rule/practice does not apply anymore.
Mis amigos, we all understand that fighting is the life and the work of boxers all over the world. This is true in the Philippines, in my native Panama, or in Africa. And yes, to many boxers, it's the only way they have to bring food to their families' tables in an honest decent and brave way. But risking the health of young men with wife, children and parents in mismatches is worrisome.
Furthermore, how does the WBC - an organization that has done so much to humanize boxing - approves boxer Balweg Bangoyan (who hasn't fought in one year, being his last two fights two loses) a suitable challenger for the destructive power of their Mexican WBC Fecarbox champion, who has sent to dreamland all his opponents? This is baffling me as well.
Dear reader, am I being too harsh or you agree with me?
My own humble personal conclusions are these: boxer Bangoyan has ahead of him an almost insurmountable mission. So we must pray to wish him well, hoping that he could find the way of winning or leaving the ring unharmed. Boxing is an unpredictable sport where the most unbelievable things happen.
Second conclusion, the GAB Boxing division should pay more attention to all Pinoy boxers fighting abroad, especially in Mexico and Thailand, checking every issues regarding their insurance and registered contracts, because what happened to the brave hero Sisnorio shall never be forgotten. His life shall be honored every day and remind us that we must protection all boxers going abroad and our guards must never be lowered.
CO-MAIN EVENT: GADAPAN OF ILIGAN LANAO DEL NORTE VS "THE MEXICAN DOBERMAN"
In the card's co-main event, 26-year-old Lightweight (135-pounder) Jonel Gadapan (8-5-1, 4 KO's) of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, will exchange blows against taller 140-pounder Mexican Jairo "The Doberman" Lopez (13-2, 9 KO's) for the WBC Youth World Jr. Welterweight Title.
The hard-swinging "Doberman" has already sent to sleep seven of his last eight preys and now wants to eat the Filipino Gadapan who in the photo appears to be shorter and lighter than the Doberman.. This battle is another tough job.
In these photos taken during the presscon, the Filipino and Mexican boxers pose with the smiley Mayor of the City of Apodaca, don Raymundo Flores Elizondo, who, as a good politician loves photo-ops, but is probably clueless to the fact that these two fights could be considered by many fans as mismatches.
Amigos, lets wish the best to Gadapan and Bangoyan in their respective complicated fights (Sunday morning in the Philippines).
This card in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, is a production of promoters Reginaldo & Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo in association with Antonio Lozada of Baja Boxing and Mariano De Le?n of Promociones De Le?n, aired in Mexico and Latin American on TELEVISA for its customary Saturday night show "S?bados de Box."
