PANAMA CITY, Panama - World Champion Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno of Panama, one of the top 118-pounders in the planet, is set to make the 12th defense of his WBA Super World Title against world-ranked challenger Javier "Chispita" Chac?n of Mendoza, Argentina, this Saturday (March 22) at the Roberto Duran Arena here in Panama City, Panama.

The two fighters amicably shook hands during a meet-and-greet promotional open air activity yesterday at the touristic Cinta Costera area along Panama Bay, a meeting in which Moreno appeared taller than his Argentina challenger.

The 28-year-old Anselmo Moreno (34-2-1, 12 KO's) - one of the most durable world champions in today's boxing, captured the WBA world strap by defeating then unbeaten power house champ Ukrainian Volodymyr Sydorenko in D?sseldorf, Germany, in May of 2008.

But these days there is one boxing star that Anselmo Moreno would like to battle in the ring: undefeated Super bantamweight (122 lbs) champ Leo "Terremoto" Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KO's) of Mexico. Moreno has asked Golden Boy Promotions for that fight. It's not yet known if it would materialize.

Meanwhile, challenger WBA #11 Javier "Chispita" Chac?n (19-1, 4 KO's) of Mendoza, Argentina, a former WBC Latino super flyweight titlist said to Panamanian reporter Hector Villarreal:

"I agree that Anselmo Moreno is a very skilled fighter. But I am here in Panama to fight and put pressure on Moreno so that he will not have a chance to use his technique."

The referee for the Moreno VS Chac?n WBA title fight will be Russell Mora of Las Vegas, Nevada, while the ringside judges are Alfredo Polanco of M?xico, Uriel Aguilera of Colombia and Hernando Steidel of and Puerto Rico.

HEATED UNDERCARDS

In one of the exciting undercards, WBC #3/IBF # 5/WBA #14/WBO #14 105-pounder 19-year-old Leroy Estrada (11-1, 5 KO's) of La Chorrera, Panama, defends his WBC Latino Minimumweight belt and four world rankings from the fists of veteran Edwin "La Pantera" D?az of San Miguelito. Both southpaws fighters promised a win by KO.

In another battle betweeen Panamaniana, WBC # 10/WBA #13/WBO #15 Gilberto "El Cacique" Pedroza (10-1-2, 5 KO's) of Darien, Panama, defends his WBC FECARBOX Minimumweight crown from compatriot Carlos "Ara?ita" Ortega (8-3-2, 4 KO's) of La Chorrera. This bout is a rematch as the two draw after a heated fight at Fantastic Casino de Albrook Mall last January. This Saturday, the two want to exchange blows again to finally define "quien es el m?s macho!"

The interesting fight card this Saturday (March 22) in Panama is a production of Promoter of the Year in Panama Rogelio Espi?o of Promociones y Eventos del Istmo to be aired LIVE on TyC Sports Channel in Argentina and TV MAX in Panama.
