PASIG CITY, PHILIPPINES -- People's champ Manny Pacquiao is planning to enroll in college after he passed the Accreditation and Equivalency test (A&E) for high school.

In a press conference held at the DepEd office this afternoon, the Department of Education (DepEd) secretary Jesli A. Lapus announced Pacquiao's passing the test in A&E together with the appointment of Pacman as DepEd Ambassador for the Alternative Learning System.

"Manny is an excellent model for all out-of-school children, youth and adults who are determined to learn and are able to gain functional literacy skills outside of formal schooling, and we would like to congratulate him on his latest achievement," said Lapus.

Lapus added that Manny's decision to continue his education is worth emulating.

Pacquiao's choice courses are Political Science and Management to be taken either in Ateneo or La Salle.

"Salamat sa Alternative Learning System at unti-unti ko nang maabot ang pangarap kong makapagtapos ng kolehiyo," said Pacquiao.

Alternative & Equivalency test conducted by DepEd Bureau of Alternative Learning System (BALS) for individuals who have dropped out of formal schooling but wish to continue study in elementary or in high school.

"Ang ALS ay kapantay ng mga nag-aaral sa high school those who will pass the A&E test are given a certificate equivalent to a grade 6 or fourth year high school diploma," siad Dir. Carolina S. Guererro Bureau of Alternative Learning System.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao was bombarded with some questions raised by reporters regarding his candidacy in May election against incumbent Rep. Darlen eAntonino Custodio of the 1st District of South Cotabato.

"Mahirap kasing tumulong pag wala ka sa posisyon dahil malulugi ka galing sa bulsa ko ang pagtulong samantalang pag nakaupo ako, ay hindi ako masyadong mag-aabono (It's difficult to help if you're out of office because you get the money out of your own pocket while if I'm elected, I will not spend as much)," Pacquiao said.

"Sa mga nagtatanong sa kakayahan ko sa pagpasok sa politika, ay ipnauubaya ko na lang sa Panginoon, siya na ang bahala na basbasan sila sa pag-iisip nila ng hindi maganda sa akin sana maliwanagan na sila (Those who question my ability to enter politics, I'll leave to God, He should be the one to enlighten them)," Pacquiao concluded.
