Instead of building crescendo, Fury’s 7th-round stoppage of 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in Pattaya and Joshua’s chaotic 2nd-round KO of Kristian Prenga in Jeddah have left boxing analysts, former champions, and weary fans asking: What exactly are we buying into?

There was a time when Fury vs. Joshua was the absolute pinnacle of world boxing—an undisputed clash for all four heavyweight belts in their absolute prime. Today, after Usyk’s dominance at the top of the division and both men enduring severe career setbacks, critics question whether this bout has drifted from an elite rivalry into a lucrative nostalgia tour.
Comparisons are already being drawn to the 2022 Kell Brook vs. Amir Khan clash—a long-awaited British grudge match that arrived years past its expiration date, delivering high pay-per-view numbers but doing little to decide genuine supremacy at the elite level.
3. Where Will the Fight Actually Take Place?
While Hearn maintains that the contracts are locked in, the exact location remains a subject of intense debate and contractual jockeying:
The UK Preference: Hearn insists the fight should take place on home soil, stating that moving it away from Britain would require Joshua’s explicit approval. Turki Alalshikh has even appealed to British authorities for relaxed curfew licenses at Wembley Stadium to accommodate global broadcast windows.
International Frontrunners: Host locations in Riyadh and Las Vegas remain heavily in play, while reports have surfaced naming New York’s Madison Square Garden as a potential dark horse. Tax implications and astronomical site fees continue to weigh heavily on where the final signatures land.
4. Do Both Fighters Genuinely Want It Next?
Despite months of public posturing, body language tells its own story. Fury notably passed up on traveling to Saudi Arabia for a face-off with Joshua after beating Wach, opting instead to fly straight home to the UK. In post-fight interviews, Fury’s classic ambiguity resurfaced, telling reporters "don't hold your breath."
On the other side, Joshua treated his victory over Prenga with an emotional homage to his late friends lost in last December's tragic car accident, before launching into a bizarre, whispery Mike Tyson impression to call out the absent Fury.
Whether this represents classic pre-fight chicken-and-brinkmanship or genuine hesitation from two aging stars remains to be seen.
