2.5 points---GM Richard Bitoon, IM Oliver Dimakiling, IM Chito Garma, FM Haridas Pascua, NM Stewart Manaog, NM Raymond Salcedo
CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur -- Grandmaster John Paul Gomez and Fide Master Hamed Nouri cruised to their third straight wins and shared top spot with Emmanuel Emperado in the 2013 Candon Rapid Open Chess Championship dubbed as Hon. Allen G. Singson Cup here at the at the Candon Civic Center in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, over the weekend.
The Binan, Laguna native Gomez subdued FM Davie Elorta of Manila in the third round to raise his total to a perfect 3.0 points, the same output of Nouri and Emperado.
The Escalante City, Negros Occidental ace Nouri defeated FM Mari Joseph Turqueza of Quezon City while the Las Pinas City resident Emperado upset IM Barlo Nadera of Malabon City.
GM Richard Bitoon of Medellin, Cebu, IM Oliver Dimakiling of Davao City, IM Chito Garma of Manila, FM Haridas Pascua of Mangatarem, Pangasinan, NM Stewart Manaog of Quezon City and NM Raymond Salcedo of Pasay City were tied at 4th to 9th places with 2.5 points each.
In the fourth round, Gomez will tackle Nouri; Emperado will face Dimakiling; while Bitoon goes up against Salcedo in Board 3.
No less than City Councilor, Chairperson, City Fiesta executive Committee Atty. Kristelle Singson and GM John Paul Gomez made the ceremonial move to formally open the 2013 Candon Rapid Open Chess Championship. Witnessing the ceremonial move are Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretary Jerry Malamion, NCFP Executive Director GM Jayson Gonzales and National Master Edmundo Gatus.
