PHILIPPINE MEMORY TEAM LOOKING FOR OLYMPIC GOLD AT 2012 WORLD 'OLYMPIC' MEMORY CHAMPIONSHIP

MANILA, Philippines - Team Philippines is ready to compete for the country, as they aim to bring pride to the Filipino people.

Dubbed as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Philippine Memory Team, its members are in high spirits as they head to London for the 21st World 'Olympic' Memory Championship.

The Philippine Memory team is aiming for the country's first 'Olympic' gold medal when the best and brightest memory athletes will show their wares on December 14, 15 and 16 at the Lilian Baylis Technology School, 323 Kennington Lane in London, United Kingdom.

Last year, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Philippine Memory Team finished second overall in the team competition during the 20th World ?Olympic? Memory Championship held last December in Guangzhou, China.

Powerhouse China took the gold medal, while Mongolia captured the bronze.

Other countries which took part in last year's WMC 'Olympic' event were the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland, Japan, Uzbekistan, South Africa, India, Hongkong, Singapore, Malaysia, Maldives and Indonesia.

Last July 7, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Philippine Memory Team won 10 (ten) gold medals in the Mind Festival and 5th Thailand International Open Memory Championships at the Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand.

?This is the strongest team we have ever fielded, a mixed of veterans and up-and-coming memory players,? said sportsman/businessman Aurelio ?Reli? de Leon, team manager and delegation head.

"We feel we have a real good chance of doing very well in this World 'Olympic' Memory Championship prestigious tournament," said Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr., Deputy Chef-de-Mission and Team Captain.

The following members of the team aside from De Leon and Bernardino:

First Filipino Grandmaster (GM) of Memory Mark Anthony Castaneda, veteran campaigner Roberto Racasa, GM candidate Johann Randall Abrina, GM candidate Erwin Balines, Christopher Carandang, Cristine "Eon" Barao, Anne Bernadette Bonita and 10-year-old whiz kid Jamyla Lambunao.

Joining them are Axelyancy Cowan Tabernilla, Ian Roi Spencer Betiong, Mary Sharmaine Deldio-Dianquinay, Ydda Graceille Mae Habab, Blessie Mae Ayalde, Princess Grace Mendoza, Lovely Icao, Carol Barbra Cruz, Karlo Marco Galvan and Ronnie Gonzales.
