Shawn Porter vs. Alfonzo Gomez (Welterweights)
San Jose, California

Round One: No warming up for either fighter in this round. Porter got the better of the exchanges with his speed. Good action in the last minute of the round. Porter was able to land some good overhand rights, but Gomez is hanging in there with a few rights of his own. Porter 10-9.

Round Two: Gomez is landing some solid right hands to Porter?s chin. Gomez complains about headbutts. Both try to throw hooks but Gomez?s lands first. Good action once again where Gomez this time got the better of the exchanges. Gomez 10-9.

Round Three: Porter is eating a lot of right hands so far. Porter mixed in some solid combinations while on the inside. This was another close around because Gomez landed solid shots early and late in the round, while Porter was effective in the middle portion of the round with his infighting. Gomez 10-9.

Round Four: Porter got in his best offense of the fight so far with 5 overhand rights that landed and seemed to stun Gomez. Another good action round with Porter landing more right hands than Gomez. It?s a battle of the right hands so far. Porter 10-9.

Round Five: Porter is starting to figure out Gomez more in this round and is controlling the fight in the middle of the ring and when both are on the inside exchanging combinations. Great action once again in the last minute of the round. Porter had Gomez hurt and on the ropes, but Gomez fought back with some body shots to survive the round. The tide has turned in Porter?s favor now. Porter 10-9.

Round Six: Porter is winning the round until Gomez lands a haymaker right that landed clean on Porter, who was not hurt from the punch. Good body attack by Gomez has Porter backing up. Close round. Gomez?s face is starting to show the effects of Porter?s punches. Porter 10-9.

Round Seven: Porter is trying to pick up the pace on Gomez, but Gomez is still dangerous throwing punches and not backing down. Porter was the more effective fighter in that round with his ability to get inside and land combination. Gomez slips twice and his mouthpiece fell out of his mouth in that round. Porter 10-9.

Round Eight: Porter hurt Gomez to the body in the middle of the round. Porter is clearly the fresher of the two but Gomez can still land that right hand to change the fight. Another body shot hurt Gomez and Porter is starting to run away with the fight. Gomez is starting to break down a bit as they go into the final stretch. Porter 10-9.

Round Nine: Porter took the early part of the round off and he boxed most of that round. Heads clash again and Porter suffered a huge cut on his left eyebrow. The doctor took a close look at the cut and allowed the fight to continue. Porter didn?t do much in that round. That?s a nasty cut. Gomez 10-9.

Round Ten: The referee has the doctor look at the cut once again and the doctor tests Porter?s vision. Fight continues. More clashes of the heads. Rough fight for both fighters now. Gomez is trying for the knockout. Gomez loses his mouthpiece again and tells Porter to bring it. Good action to end the fight. Both fighters showed tremendous heart in a fun action fight. Porter was the better boxer but Gomez?s toughest allowed him to last throughout the fight and stay dangerous. Fight goes to the scorecards. Porter 10-9.

The judges score the fight 96-94, 97-93, and 98-92 for the winner and still undefeated Shawn Porter.
