Mississauga Hershey Center - Filipino Canadian Boxer Junmar Emon finally met his opponent Daryl Peron face to face today in front of the local media. Emon makes his pro debut tomorrow in the under cards against Peron who stands with a significant height advantage.
The last time we saw a Filipino boxer give up this much height difference was probably when Manny Pacquiao fought and gave Antonio Margarito the worst beating of his career. Emon is not worried about the significant height advantage since he is used to being the smaller man in the ring. With the tall task ahead of him, Emon must fully utilize his footwork, speed and power to neutralize the distance and height advantage Peron will take advantage of. Emon has the opportunity be the giant slayer in this David vs. Goliath match up.
The media and broadcast cameras present witnessed a decent encounter between Emon and Peron, the two briefly exchanged pleasantries and agreed to put on a good show tomorrow night. The same cannot be said about the main event featuring NABA Super Featherweight Champion Logan McGuinness and Meacher Major. The challenger Major got vocal and was the aggressor taunting McGuiness. Major had to be pulled back as the two main event fighters were separated by the WBA Supervisor. Like a true Champion and role model for the sport, McGuiness demonstrated his composure, restraint and reserve under pressure. The Champion commented to this writer that he will save it for the fight tomorrow night.
