The Philippine Men’s Davis Cup Team delivered another dominant performance at the Davis Cup Group IV Asia/Oceania zone, blanking Kuwait 3-0 in their latest tie held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Jean Henri Lhuillier, president of Unified Tennis Philippines and who served before as Davis Cup team manager, expressed his pride in the team’s continued success. “I couldn’t be prouder of our Philippine Davis Cup team,” said Lhuillier. “Their consistent performance and fighting spirit in every match show just how much heart this team has. We’re all rallying behind them as they continue their winning run.”
Among the standout players are Cebuana Lhuillier tennis ambassadors AJ Lim, Niño Alcantara, and Ruben Gonzales—longtime representatives of Lhuillier’s tennis advocacy and commitment to developing local talent. They are joined by teammates Jed Olivarez and Iggy Pantino, under the guidance of coaches Joseph Lizardo and Johnny Arcilla.
Jed Olivarez opened the tie with a gritty three-set victory over Ali Ashanti, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0. Battling through sweltering conditions, Olivarez dominated the final set to secure the first point for the Philippines.
AJ Lim followed up with a commanding performance, dispatching Bader Alabdullah in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, Cebuana Lhuillier ambassador Niño Alcantara teamed up with Iggy Pantino, taking an early 2-1 lead before the Kuwaiti duo retired from the match, sealing a 3-0 sweep for the Philippines.
The team remains unbeaten in Group IV play and is set to face Qatar next.-Marlon Bernardino-
