The RP Blu Girls came heartbreakingly close to upsetting unbeaten China but ultimately fell short in a tight 2–1 contest at the 2025 WBSC Women’s Softball Asia Cup. Despite a strong showing and an early defensive stand that held China scoreless for six innings, the Philippines couldn't hold off a late rally in the final frame. China managed two runs in the bottom of the seventh to snatch the win and preserve their perfect record.
Earlier in the day, the Blu Girls powered past Singapore with a resounding 13–0 win, their fifth in the tournament. That mercy-rule victory featured standout performances from multiple players and raised hopes for a major upset against host nation China. Entering the game with a 5–1 record, the Philippines showed grit and control on both ends but couldn’t close out the late-game push from the Chinese side.
ASAPHIL President and Cebuana Lhuillier CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier remained optimistic despite the loss. “This was a tough result, but the Blu Girls showed incredible heart against one of the best teams in the tournament,” he said. “They’ve already proven they can compete at this level, and we’re confident they’ll bounce back with even more determination.”-Marlon Bernardino-
