SEVILLANO WINS WESTERN CLASS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS; POCKETS $1,963

CEBUANO International Master Enrico "Ikong" Sevillano ensured a thrilling end to the 19th Annual Western Class Chess Championships by defeating Russian IM Roman Yankovsky in the fifth and final round at the Sheraton Agoura Hills Hotel (formerly Renaissance), in Agoura Hills, California last March 9 to 11.

This victory enabled Sevillano to take his tally to four and half points to take the Winner?s trophy and pocketed a cash prize of $1,963.

The former Southwestern University stand-out Sevillano gave up a draw in round 1 against Fide Master John Daniel Bryant of the United States but then went on to win all his remaining games against IM Andran Matikozyan of Armenia, FM Konstantin Kavutskiy and Samuel Sevian of the USA and Yankovsky.

Sevillano was recently winner in the 15th Metropolitan Chess FIDE Invitational and runner-up in the 3rd Annual Golden State Open.

Sevillano is a member of Heritage Bible Church. A Fil-Am Christian Ministry in Bakersfield, California founded by Pastor Jojo Culaniban, also a Filipino Pastor Missionary.
