The celebrated successful 1st GAB Philippine Annual BOxing Convention last April 19-22,2006 here in the Philippines is over with flying colors. We owe it to the men and women of the GAB agency and the co-organizers of our event the TEAM Asia who in a sense have labored so hard for the realization of it.Much more, to the indefatigable Executive Secretary Eduardo R.Ermita as our direct boss through the Office of the President who has supported us all the way. Chairman of the Games and Amusements Board Eric R.Buhain was quoted in saying that " its time to move on to the next agendum of our agency's professional sporting development programs in the year 2006 ".Which means , the go signal of already conducting pro women boxing fights in the country. Here's how it is.
Earlier in February this year , the GAB Board has approved the legalization of the women boxing in professional category as part and parcel of the pro sporting event in the Philippines by amending the standing "rules and regulations" governing pro boxing in the country. And as part of an administrative innovations this year , we have to design the incorporation if not the integration of the "pro women section" in the existing GAB boxing division , with purpose only to cater to women would be profesional fighters.Future accreditations of women boxing promoters, managers, trainors and the boxers themselves will surely in its evolution. But those who are already in the industry , our technical people in the boxing division will just issue upon approval by this Board , guidelines basic as it is , for those who are already licensed officials in the pro boxing , who would also like to involve themselves in the female fights and promotions. That is taking one step to another, and the GAB Chairman has given the green light to effect the same for the common interest of our national boxing community here. This is another big potential opportunity for our stables and owners to grow even further in the name of pro boxing, now that we have legalized both gender .A clear manifestation of solid commitment by this agency to bring forth the unexpected enhancement in boxing not only here but before the eyes of international competition. For the record , the Women International Boxing Association which is supported by the Women Asian Boxing Association as its counterpart in the region , was the first be accredited by the GAB.The catch of the story is that , we have just laid down the monumemntal ground breaking of this during the GAB boxing convention and has been accepted by the whole delegations including foreign boxing officials.
And now the evolution of promoting the female fight cards in the country is open.I will be discussing this aspects with the officials of the WIBA-WABA Philippine chapter within two weeks to draft the mechanisms on how to go about it.As a matter of truth , I am positive that some of the leading boxing in the country if not all, are already training top caliber would be female fighters. And I'm pretty sure that we can produce " female Manny Pacquiao" in the near future. In calculation, its not far from real because through this representation , we have the capacity to elevate our women fighters of the ring before the regional and international level by virtue of our appointment as Commissioner to the Philippines by the Florida ,USA based WIBA headed by its President Ryan Wissow who is ever supportive of us.The first target to begin women pro boxing in the country not in its maiden show but as pioneer is this coming July 2006.Let's get ready to rumble once again!
