
GAB BOXING CONVENTION KICKS OFF TOMORROW, APRIL 19

The first ever "1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention" at the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila scheduled on the 19th to 22nd of April, 2006 will officially kick off tomorrow. Participants expected to number at two hundred and fifty (250) coming from the country's local boxing communities and foreign counterparts involving the top honchos of the pro boxing sanctioning bodies are now arriving to attend the said four-day conclave.
This is a priority project under the Office of the President through the direct supervision of Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita and spearheaded by the Games and Amusements Board with the strong stewardship of former olympian and swimming icon of the country Chairman Eric R. Buhain. Top officials from the national hierarchy headed no less than by Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the reigning WBC International Super Featherweight Champion, our very own "People's Champion" Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, will grace the occassion.
Here are some details of the convention for the information of our compatriots and international participants:
April 19, Wednesday
- Registration Day to start at exactly 7:30 a.m. to be attended to by the Secretariat of the Convention to be held at the 3rd level of the Hotel Hyatt Le Salon.
- Issuance of Convention ID, survival kits and other materials of the four-day event.
- Exhibits of pro sporting crafts and goods and other trade fairs.
- Acquaintance party at the Elorde Sports Complex in Para?aque at 7:00 p.m.
April 20, Thursday
- Lecture forums in the morning and afternoon at the Hyatt Hotel function rooms including subject matters in medical, officiating, refereeing, judging and the pro boxing rules and regulations.
- Starting at 7:00 p.m., Gala Night and Awarding Ceremonies at the Exhibit Hall of the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila featuring Filipino world boxing champions past and present with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. Recognition awards will also be given to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the development of pro boxing in the country. These inlcludes recognition of all boxing sanctioning bodies in the international arena of pro boxing.
April 21, Friday
- Professional boxing championship matches dubbed as "Rumble at the Bay" starting at 7:00 p.m. at Rajah Sulaiman Park, City of Manila, featuring Filipino PABA super featherweight champion Jun Paderna vs. Kiatkrerin Kularbdang of Thailand with an undercard of top Filipino pro boxing fighters.
April 22, Saturday
- Final day with lectures and other city touring activities in the City of Manila and other tourist destinations in the nearby towns and cities.
Schedules are subject to change by the over-all convention committees ... Wrap up and convention commencement party in the evening at the Hotel Hyatt. Banquet dinner, parties, etc...
We are moving squarely within the four corners of our sphere for the success of this historic event in showcasing the best of our Filipino world class fighters. The event in itself is a solid manifestation of the national government agenda in sending a strong signal before the Filipinos masses and the international sporting communities of our seriousness in continuing our quest to promote more and more national champions towards global excellence and recognition.
