GAB CONVENTION ALL SYSTEMS GO!

Last Saturday was "Black Sabbath" which is usually associated with resting in the ecclesiastical belief, but we were at the GAB Makati office trying to do some last-minute preparations and attend to various event-related concerns just to ensure the success of the "1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention" this April 19-22 at the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila.

We cannot afford to rest one bit since the GAB Chairman Eric R. Buhain wants it to be well planned out right at the get-go up to the last detail.

The thing is, this is the priority project of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo under the direct supervision of Executive Secretary Eduardo R.Ermita.We mean business as to the implementation of this program. And besides, this convention will speak for our country as event facilitator and to be the dry-run for the hosting of the 2007 World Boxing Council(WBC) Annual Convention.

The WBC is much bigger and worth working for, since the WBC global forum is to be attended by 700 delegates out of its 190 member countries worldwide. At stake here is the country's image as a magnet for convention tourism.

Chairman Buhain too denied his family of his precious time just to be hands-on with the set up of this memorable event in the City of Manila next week.

My relatives in Seattle, Washington, USA especially Rusty Borromeo of the Borromeo Construction got surprised when I called them up and informed them I was at the Makati office of the GAB last Saturday!

From the opening day up to the last day, everything is now green and go. This is history in the making and after 55 long years of our agency's existence this is considered long overdue for our global boxing champions. But for us, its better late than never. We need to do this, or else we will be losing all the opportunities and the esentials of letting our pro athletes feel the warmth of the national leadership.

The timing couldn't have been better. Let us support this boxing convention now. Let us unify our efforts and all of our resources for the brighter tomorrow is just around the corner. For us in the GAB Board this is not a matter of legacy but unselfish contribution with no political motives whatsoever. The main target here is the enhancement and enrichment of our Philippine boxing industry.

Let us go global and focus our means towards globalization.
