Before a fantastic and supportive crowd that filled the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Center to the rafters, Z "The Dream" Gorres, the former RP champ, defeated OPBF's no.2 Waenpetch Chuwatana of Thailand to capture the OPBF superfly title.

The recently-concluded ten-bout boxing event entitled "A Dream Come True" was organized by the SSG Promotions in a tie-up with the the world-renowned Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. The card also featured the pride of Tagbilaran City, Bohol Czar Amonsot, Asia Pacific reigning regional champion in the super featherweight division, who also outboxed Thai Dechco Bankluaygym in a tenner.

It was a non-title fight for Amonsot, who once again proved himself in the ring as another pro boxing sensation of the country. Z Gorres, perceived by many boxing fans and aficionados to be a future world champion, sent Chuwatana down to the canvas after delivering his left solid uppercut, then won via a one-sided unanimous decision. Three top-level officials who scored were : Pinit Prayabsab of Thailand 118-109, Salven Lagumbay of the Philippines 119-107 and Bruce McTavish of New Zealand as referee-judge penned it 120-106, all three in favor of Gorres.

Ronnie Nathanielsz anchored the RPN-9 coverage and was quoted as mentioning "This is one of the most spectacular events in boxing promotions that took place this year."

Chairman Eric R. Buhain of the Games and Amusements Board and his two Commissioners issued a statement today which states "We would like to commend in unison the victories of Z Gorres and Czar Amonsot in Mandaue City last Saturday night, and before the eyes of Oscar De la Hoya's top executives, again we have brought a strong signal indicating the continued accomplisments of our Filipino great boxers."

The GAB as an agency which regulates and supervises the conduct of all professional sports in the Philippines, in categorical and straight manner maintains its manifestation of support and all out efforts to better shape the development of professional boxing in the country. We also would like to extend our congratulatory message to the men behind the ALA stable and the SSG Promotions headed by the indefatigable Sammy G. Gello-ani.May your tribes increase as we continue the struggle to re-unify our common strength to produce more Filipino boxing champions in the world.

I will not allow this column to be printed today without saying CONGRATULATIONS to a good friend, fellow columnist and prolific writer of Philippine boxing scene and Philboxing.com editor Salven Lagumbay, the duly elected President now of all the Professional Boxing Officials of the Visayas. His election to the office was unanimous according to my source. I've known this young man as a budding entrepreneur, with a Business degree from the University of the Philippines. In his free times, he goes about his first love, which is to write about the goings-on in boxing.

Dr.Jose Unabia is the Vice-President and Jonathan Davis of Banco Filipino as the treasurer. We take off our hats to you guys!
