MAKATI CITY--It is with great pride and honor for and in behalf of the Games and Amusements Board headed by Chairman Eric R.Buhain and my partner Commissioner Angel P.Bautista, that I humbly accept the nomination and outright appointment to be the Womens' International Boxing Association (WIBA) representative of the Florida, USA-based organization to the Philippines.
My appointment came after some endorsements coming from some sectors and the group of top sports writers of the country and most of all by Salven Lagumbay, the country's most prolific boxing scribe and international boxing judge who pushed for my new WIBA post.
Mr.Ryan Wissow , the WIBA President based in the US signed the appoinment dated 5th of February 2006.Among the responsibilities as indicated by Wissow, is to serve also as an Officer of the WABA, a newly formed regional arm of the WIBA in the Asian region.
The appointment stated: "I hereby appoint Mr.Alex Paglumotan as the official representative for the Philippines. Mr.Paglumotan wil oversee all WIBA affairs in his country, which include the sanctioning of WIBA title fights in the Philippines, and recommending any Filipino women for the WIBA ratings. In addition to being named the WIBA's Philippines representative, Mr.Paglumotan wil also be named officer of the WIBA's Asian branch, the newly formed WABA ( Women's Asian Boxing Association ), which was created to help develop and further evolve women's professional boxing in Asia, and to bring the countries of the region together in sport."
To be honest, prior to my acceptance to this, I respectfully asked the approval of Chairman Eric R.Buhain for confirmation. And then good Chairman positively replied, "YES! Take it partner , for it is our gateway in doubling our efforts through the GAB and the WIBA to effect the pro women's boxing promotion in the Philippines".
I thank Chairman Buhain for his spontaneous and unequivocal support to me. He is the type of leader who is happy to see his men taking on new challenges and responsibilities. Ofcourse, I accepted this job without any hint of reservation. And I strongly believe that through me now, serving as a conduit of the WIBA-WABA to the Philippines, we can do better this time for the benefit of our women boxers in the near future. The only thing that I have to be prepared of now,is the fact that I have to exert more efforts to make it successful while at the same time continue doing my assigned tasks at the GAB.
Let me take this opportunity also to thank Congressman Monico O. Puentevella of Bacolod City, my hometown, for congratulating me after this big news. Hoping for your invaluable support sir!
For now, may I invite and enjoin all those in the women boxing community as pioneers here in the Philippines to join me in this very significant quest in pursuing another path and chapter of Philippine boxing history.
