San Carlos ? It was officially media fan appreciation day at the Undefeated Gym in San Carlos, California, as former IBF Flyweight Titlist, Nonito Donaire, worked out and answered questions from the fans, who packed the boxing gym to see Donaire prepare of the biggest fight of his life against WBC Bantamweight Titlist, Fernando Montiel.
Donaire, 25-1 (17 KO?s), gave fans an inside look into his daily workout regiment and his mind set with a little over two more weeks left before his bout with Montiel, 44-2-2 (34 KO?s). Donaire told the crowd that he is in the best shape of his life and his confidence in victory has never been higher.
?I feel that this victory will allow myself to be in that elite class of fighters,? Donaire told the audience while in the middle of stretching. It?s obvious that Donaire is looking beyond just the 118lbs and he even uttered the words ?Juan-Ma? as a future opponent at 126lbs.
However, the fighter he takes on next is also one of the best fighters in the world. Montiel brings into the ring an extremely impressive resume, which includes titles in 3 different weight classes. Montiel is fresh off of an impressive 2010, highlighted by a shocking 4th TKO of Hozumi Hasegawa in Hasegawa?s home country of Japan.
?But that was 2010. It?s now 2011 and it?s my turn to shine,? Donaire declared in response to Montiel?s reputation and recent winning streak.
Donaire even went on to make a bold prediction when he stated, ?I?m going to try to stop him under 6 rounds.?
Donaire looks like he is in the best shape of his career and his body has really changed at he has moved up in weight. 118lbs could be Donaire best weight class and can easily move up to higher weight classes in the future.
Donaire-Montiel is scheduled to take place on February 19 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas (which is during the NBA All Star weekend, so Vegas should be lively that weekend). The bout will be televised on HBO Boxing After Dark.
