This coming Friday, the 27th of January 2006, will be a big day for the Filipino Champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, our proud WBC International Super Featherweight world champion. Others would like to give a new name for Manny such as "The Mexican Assasin", "The New Hero" and "The Unity King", among others.

Whatever it is, it's over for Erik "El Terrible No More" Morales. It's for Manny himself and us, the ever supportive Filipinos, on how we are going to handle the celebrations of such a glorious moment in our professional sports history. On orders of the President, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, today we've met at the palace to discuss and iron out the best welcoming preparation to be given to the Philippine Champion and his team.

The meeting was attended by, among others, Dodie Limcauco (representing the President), Manila City officials, PSC's Butch Ramirez, Pagcor representatives as well as represtatives from Solar Sports and ABS-CBN, Madame Lupita Kashiwara and the GAB as represented by this writer in behalf of Chairman Eric R. Buhain.

Manny was scheduled to arrive in the country via PAL flight 103 from Los Angeles at 4:30 am this Friday. Among the things that were discussed during the meeting was the security, the motorcade and other details. Expect many surprises as the President wants this to be a grand and united celebration for the entire nation. There will be, for the first time, a street party at the beautiful Bay Walk in Roxas Boulevard with performances from different musical bands and professional singers including the participation of "The Lettermen" as guest performers.

All presidential iteniraries will remain confidential as a matter of security. However, expect PGMA to bestow upon Manny the highest presidential citation because of the pride, glory and honor that the Pacman has given to the country. Manny is now a symbol not only of unity to us, but as a worthy example for the younger generation of Filipinos.

A congressional merit/citation is also in the pipeline. Let us only hope that others would not take advantage of Manny's great achievements. That is why the President really wants it to be a celebration of the nation, rather than having it in sporadic way. Afterall, he's our very own pride.

So, let us all join together to welcome our hero this coming Friday. Oh no, its not a national holiday. Definitely it's a regular working day, only, it's going to be declared a Manny Pacquiao Day. This feat of Manny Pacquiao will go down in boxing history as a true symbol of the Filipino's grit, courage and bravery.

Mabuhay tayong lahat na mga Filipino sa buong mundo!
