This writer will not let the Yuletide Season pass without writing about a very important person in our agency, the GAB. This is not a gift, but a tribute to this young man, good friend and topnotch physician of the Games and Amusements Board: DR.NASSER V. CRUZ.

His accomplishments as a medical practitioner who focuses on the sport of boxing provide so much pride for the agency as a whole. Dr.Cruz's expertise as "ring physician" have won for him the admiration of professional boxers and their officials not only here in the Philippines but also in various world sanctioning bodies around. He is mild-mannered, well-respected chief medical officer among his peers and colleaugues and he is known for his professionalism. He devoted so much effort, time and ability to be a good example of a dynamic workforce of the GAB and remarkably, his vital foundation of service and dedication to the office is almost unequalled.

Valuable as they are, Dr.Cruz's delivery of unwavering service and support to the agency will remain not only as a matter of commitment, but rather a legacy.

Who is Dr.Nasser V.Cruz?
More than authoring various publications espousing the safety measures for the pro boxers fighting inside the ring, he sets examples in ensuring the safety of the lives of the boxers by focusing on the issues related to boxers' health at the GAB.

He finished Medicine at the Davao Medical School Foundation in 1982 after earning a pre-med course at the UP Dilliman. He then underwent residency training in general surgery at the Rizal Medical Center. Among his well-deserved recognitions/awards and publications are the following:

Author of the "Medical requirements of the OPBF" presented at the WBC convention in Moscow, Russia in 1999 and the "Ringside Monitoring Tips" presented before the Sports Medicine Congress in Melbourne, Australia in 2002. He has lectured extensively in the many topics as "Medical Safety Boxing", "Medical Requirements of Professional Boxers and Trainers in the Phils.","Ringside Physician and Medical Safety in Boxing" and "Ringside Observation".

He had received numerous awards and recognitions both in public and the private sector here and abroad. He was also an awardee during the 3rd Annual Gabriel "Flash" Elorde awards night at the Peninsula Hotel on March 25, 2003. Just this year the most prestigious so far, was when he was conferred "The Outstanding Ring Physician" by the World Boxing Council or WBC for his contribution to the world in the field of medical safety measures for pro boxing in La Linea de la Concepcion, Cadiz, Spain on October 07, 2005.

Dr. Cruz's well deserved and well earned awards are products of hard work and utmost desire to help and maintain safety and decency in promoting the conduct of professional boxing in our country and globally. He is a unique and a one-of-a-kind professional public servant. He is married to the former Maria Gemma Balderama and their union was blessed with three sons Joralph, Miguel and Gabriel.

Mabuhay ka DR.NASSER V. CRUZ ! May your tribe increase.
