Las Vegas, Nv-- Just went it looked like Danny Jacobs would rise to another level and win his first world title, Dmitry Priog, with one right hand, ended the night of Jacobs. The stunning knockout took place in the 5th round when Pirog chased Jacobs to the ropes, who was countering Pirog for most of the fight, and landing a quick straight right hand as Jacobs was trying to counter with his own punch. Pirog's punch landed first and Jacobs crashed to the canvas. In a strange sequence, referee Robert Byrd began the count and Jacobs had his eyes closed and looked out. Byrd stopped counting and called the fight off, which caused Jacobs to react as if he was intending to get up at the 8th count.
Pirog is now the WBO MIddleweight Titlist and remains undefeated. Jacobs suffered his first lost of his career and will now have to regroup after the devastating setback.
