I HAVE A DREAM ...

In the solemn confinement of my room at a rented apartment here in Manila, with full of serenity conducive to falling asleep as an escape from the humdrum of daily hectic routine, I have dreamed that:

... Our regarded People's Champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao had terribly beaten Eric Morales of Mexico and brought him the stars down the canvas in Las Vegas, Nevada. The schedule of their globally-publicized rematch suggests that its going to be on the 21st of January 2006. I vividly recall in that dream that Morales almost lost his mestizo-looking face, reduced to eerie contortion after suffering various cuts and bruises on the 3rd round of their sensational fight courtesy of Pacquiao's array of power punches. I even saw GAB Chairman Eric R. Buhain jumping and shouting aloud with joy and in jubilation for the honor that Manny regained out of Morales for the glory of our country.

And so that dream continues ... I have dreamed that ... in one grand occasion, that looked like a big convention, a sort of a happy reunion featuring the top big bosses of the different world boxing bodies, they were talking and enjoying in one big party here somewhere in the beautiful City of Manila. I saw Mayor Lito Atienza welcoming Don Gilberto Mendoza of the World Boxing Association alongside Mr. Alan Kim of PABA. Marian Muhammad of IBF together with WBC's Don Jose Sulaiman embracing Paco Valcarcel of WBO, who was joined in attendance by Mr. Leon Panoncillo of Hawaii and the many faces of international referees and judges all converging to grace a memorable event in our country.

Perhaps, my pre-occupation of the overloaded paperworks in the preparation of all the necessary documents per the Chairman's instruction to lay down this early the very foundation of the GAB's envisioned priority project to hold the first ever Annual Boxing Convention next year really haunted me even beyond the call of the day's duty. I had clearly seen Commissioner Angel P. Bautista holding on to his task of taking into account the grandeur of the hotel preparations and making his way to maintain the best of protocol.

And in my dream that night, I saw Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo accompanied by the ever active Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita walking down the red-carpetted ballroom of a five star hotel in Manila for Her Excellency to grace such a wonderful event of the night.

Then when I got back to reality, I smiled in complete satisfaction and wished to myself that those dreams, gargantuan as they may be, will constructively turned into a reality. And why not? As for my first dream, I have this strong sense of belief that Manny Pacquiao, with no iota of doubt, will make it against Erik Morales this January 21st of 2006 ... As to the succeeding dreams, that grand reunion among big names of the professional boxing in the world and here in the Philippines, we from the Games and Amusements Board strongly express our desire to attain our main objective in holding the same. But to actually do it and do it with competence, we need the collaborative support of both the government and the private sectors.

I have these dreams... and by dint of courage and hard work, God knows they can be achieved.
