Pandemonium broke loose in the city of Tagbilaran after its most famous son Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista TKO'd Tanzanian Ohote "Thunder" Ameme at 1:57 in the 2nd round to successfully defend for the second time his WBO Asia-Pacific bantam belt.
Throwing a barrage of body shots which effectively neutralized the Tanzanian visitor, Bautista knocked down Ameme in the early minutes of the second round and finished him with a single left uppercut in the bread basket that sent Ameme to his knees. New Zealander referee Bruce McTavish stopped the fight before finishing the count of 10.
The end was greeted by a prolong display of fireworks which enlivened the spirits of thee crowd attended by most of the province's top executives and important officials and visitors headed by Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, Gov. Erico Aumentado, Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Neri Lim, Congressmen Roberto Cajes, Edgar Chato, Boy Jala and Miles Hamile, GAB Commissioners Angel Bautista and Alex Paglumotan, and others.
Rey Bautista now improves his winning streak to 18 wins with 14 KOs and appears ready to take on the world beginning next year when he is bound to launch his U.S. campaign.
