MANNY PACQUIAO’S BIG HEART TO HELP FILIPINO BOXERS

The Games and Amusements Board or GAB take its hats off to our distinguished Filipino champion of the ring, Manny “PACMAN” Pacquiao. This writer would like to commend personally Manny for his big heart to his fellow boxers. Just recently in Bacolod City during the Masskara Festival, which was graced by the champ, he announced before thousands of his fans and Bacole?os a commitment to help the life of his fellow boxers by way of donating a sizeable amount of cash not less than half a million pesos through the city government headed by Chief Executive Mayor Evelio R. Leonadia. This sounds not only a gesture of assistance, but the real self of being Manny Pacquiao.

The boxing community here in the city is joyous to learn that the hero of the ring had given such a remarkable help in order to promote both amateur and pro boxing activity in Bacolod. Of course, our GAB Extension Office here through Chairman Eric R. Buhain’s directive will augment the technical aspect of this project initiated by Pacquiao, a great honor and what a significant privilege for the young and rising boxers, who would want to emulate Manny Pacquiao.

Rep. Monico O. Puentevella of the lone District of Bacolod City, who is now heading the SEAGAMES 2005 Committee for Bacolod satellite venue also welcomes the same idea and expressed appreciation for Pacquiao. This particular move by the champ has been bannered by almost all media outlets in the City. I believe that maybe someday another boxing big name will follow in Manny's footsteps, since life after all is a matter of cycle.

In boxing career, sometimes we’re on top, sometimes down. But make sure that whenever we are on top and blessed, let’s not forget others who are struggling in our midst. That’s Manny Pacquiao, that’s our man! Pinoy tayo! Just what boxing great records were telling us: Manny is doing exactly the Flash Elorde way, though they might have differed in the magnitude of phenomenal record and income. However, THE FLASH AND MANNY HAVE ONE THING IN COMMON. And what is that? Their concern and thrust to help their fellow boxers.

KUDOS TO MANNY! You’re a real hero.
