Note: Philboxing.com would like to welcome media personality, former Bacolod City vice mayor and now GAB Commissioner Alex Paglumotan to the PhilBoxing team, as he starts contributing updates concerning his agency and Philippine boxing.

As a gesture of the nation's pride and respect to the Filipino boxing champions, the Games and Amusements Board, under the incumbency of former Olympian and the country's swimming gold medalist Eric R.Buhain and two (2) Commissioners Alex A. Paglumotan and Angel P. Bautista, passed a unanimous resolution strongly commending the People's champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, WBC light-flyweight champ Brian Viloria and Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista.

The three Filipino dynamic fighters in the ring have displayed not only the best among our fighters but have proven the Filipinos’ ability as quality boxers, thus bringing honor and glory to the Philippines before the global community of professional sports arena.

As e-mailed by Rusty Borromeo of the Borromeo Construction, one of the big boxing fan from Seattle, Washington, USA to this writer he relates, "I predict that Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao will surely bring Morales to the canvas come January 2006. Tremendously he will win with the different kind of scientific training, disclipine and determination. I see no reason why Morales would reach the 7th of the scheduled 12 rounds rematch with Pacquiao."

And with these great showing of Filipino champions, GAB as an agency under the Office of the President tasked to conduct stiffer regulations and supervisory authority over and above all the conduct of pro-sports in the Philippines is strongly committed to be on top and to continuously promote quality boxers, their welfare and protection and closer relations among the promoters and managers in order to showcase to the world the best in Filipino boxing.

Likewise, the GAB and its Board are determined to punish those who attempt to violate the rules to the detriment of the boxing community.

GAB's NEWEST AGENDA: BOXERS FUTURE WELFARE

The Games and Amusements Board of the Philippines, an agency tasked by the Office of the President to regulate and supervise the conduct of professional boxing, in its recent Board meeting had discussed as its main agenda the future protection of not only retired boxing champions but also boxers who had been in the forefront of professional boxing.

To the minds of Chairman Eric Buhain and Commissioners Alex Paglumotan and Angel Baustista, competent regulation and supervision are not enough to protect the boxers once they reach retirement age.

Some maybe are millionaires in their own right, but others even today have suffered the difficulties of coping up with the daily routine. Though there exists the Boxers Welfare Fund managed by the GAB itself, the funds are so meager to cover financial assistance for boxer's emergency cases. Thus, the GAB Board had decided to conduct a thorough research and invited many companies selling affordable insurances and life premiums to cover any future accidents, maybe permament or temporary involving professional boxers fighting here and abroad.

The GAB will carry this out for the first time the soonest time possible as part of operational innovations by the agency, and will be presented to the Office of the President for approval. This is one way of not only promoting a sound community of top Filipino boxers but also preparing for their future.
