Rumble at Rama XI – Team Ana Julaton Interview

Toronto, Canada - Philboxing recently interviewed members of Team Ana Julaton, including Coach Nonito Donaire Sr. and Angelo Reyes, Ana’s advisor and agent regarding Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton’s biggest fight thus far against Canada’s own Lisa “Bad News” Brown for the vacant WBA Super featherweight world title this coming Saturday, March 27 at Casino Rama, Orillia, Canada. Since both women are current champions, this match up is certainly a super fight in every right.
The more experienced Lisa Brown commented in a recent interview that she has fought the best and will continue to fight the best while Ana Julaton is a young and aggressive boxer with a bright future in the sport today.
At 122lbs. both Ana and Lisa are title holders. Ana Julaton (6-1-1, 1KO) is the current WBO and IBA world champion. Lisa Brown (16-4-3, 5KO) is the current WIBA and NABC Champion.
RC: Has Ana trained differently for her match up against Lisa Brown and what was the outcome of her training?
Nonito Sr.: Ana has elevated her training overall with more intensity since she is fighting Lisa who has a lot more experience than she does. She (Ana) has been developing her offence with more combinations, power and speed. Ana has been an excellent boxer to coach and work with, she puts total dedication and gives it her all when she trains. She is a very intelligent boxer who is able to carry out all of my instructions thoroughly. Her time training with Manny Pacquiao has inspired and influenced the way she trains and learns. His unparalleled work ethics are Ana’s motivation and inspiration, definitely a positive influence for Ana.
RC: How does your martial arts background and experience influence your boxing discipline and boxing style?
AJ: I have been practicing martial arts for 20 years and it has given me the ability to harness 99% mental strength and power of the mind, the 1% represents the physical outcome. I am able to learn from the examples that others show me. The discipline I acquired from martial arts makes me appreciate boxing even more, it helps me keep in control and stay focused.
RC: What’s unique about Ana’s style of boxing, what is she known for in the ring?
Nonito Sr.: Ana is still evolving and learning as a boxer at this point in time. She used to be a brawler, this time around you will see a much more refined boxer within her.
AJ: I have trained with several coaches including Freddie Roach, Nonito Donaire Sr., Rick Noble and Lauro Dorolia. I have taken best methods and teachings from each one of them and incorporate it with my style of boxing today. I have been both blessed and honored that I have been coached by all of them.
RC: What are your goals that you’ve set for yourself in a couple of year’s time in boxing, where do you want to be at that point in time?
AJ: I am totally focused on this fight right now and that is my primary goal. I’ll think about my next objectives after this fight.
Angelo Reyes: Perhaps Ana can move up in weight in the future and plan to challenge for a WBC world title belt.
RC: What do you know about your opponent Lisa Brown and her style of boxing that you will be facing?
AJ: Lisa Brown trains hard, she’s tough and brings so much experience to the ring. I respect her and she is a very nice person.
RC: How many rounds has Ana sparred at this point and who does she spar with?
Nonito Sr.: She has been sparring with Glenn Donaire, overall they have sparred 80 rounds before leaving for Canada.
