Las Vegas, NV—It what may have been his last fight, Gerry Penalosa proved he was better than his opponent Eric Morel. However, that did not translate into a decision win over 12 rounds. Penalosa started off slow early in the fight but picked up the pace from the 6th round on as it looked like Morel was losing steam and running of ways to solve the Penalosa puzzle. Penalosa stunned and hurt Morel with excellent body punches. But, Morel was able to stay on his feet and run out the clock. One judge had Penalosa the winner, 115-112, but it was overruled by a score of 115-112 and an unbelievable 116-112 in favor of Morel.

Morel improves to 40-2 (21 KOs) and will likely face WBO Bantamweight titlist, Fernando Montiel, who was also victorious that night. Penalosa drops to 54-8 (34 KOs) and suffered two cuts and a bruised eye, which was as a result from a head butt. Penalosa is in the hospital now getting stitches. He announced on Philippine television that this would likely be his last fight. Penalosa has nothing to be ashamed of because he overcame two bad cuts and clearly won the fight in the eye of everyone at the arena.
