Young Filipino aims to inspire a generation through excellence, discipline, and the power of the mind
MANILA, Philippines — At a time when stories involving the youth often focus on social problems, a remarkable 12-year-old Filipina is proving that young people can also be symbols of excellence, discipline, and hope.
Georgina Santos, 12-year-old memory wizard from Quezon City, will proudly represent the Philippines in the Kids Division of the World Memory Championships, competing in two prestigious international tournaments this December.
Her first competition will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from December 11–13, followed immediately by another World Memory Championships event in Bali, Indonesia, from December 17–19, where the world's best young memory athletes will showcase their extraordinary mental abilities.
Georgina will compete in all ten official World Memory Championship disciplines, namely:
Random Words
Binary Numbers
Names and Faces
Hour Numbers
Images
Speed Numbers
Historic/Fictional Dates
Speed Cards
Hour Cards
Spoken Numbers
These events test some of the world's highest levels of concentration, memory, speed, and mental endurance, requiring competitors to memorize massive amounts of information within strict time limits.
Her participation demonstrates that Filipino youth can excel not only in athletics and academics but also in the rapidly growing sport of memory, where discipline, perseverance, and continuous training are the keys to success.
"We hope Georgina's journey will inspire more young Filipinos to dream big, work hard, and discover the limitless potential of the human mind," said Coaches Robert Racasa.
"The country needs more positive role models who remind our youth that excellence is possible through dedication, character, and purposeful training."
With many recent headlines highlighting the challenges faced by today's youth, Georgina's story offers a refreshing reminder that countless young Filipinos continue to pursue greatness through education, sports, and intellectual achievement. She represents the kind of role model who can inspire children across the nation to spend more time learning, reading, training, and developing their talents.
The team also expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Atty. Francisco Rivera, Chairman of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), Chairman Aurelio "Reli" De Leon of the Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) and Chairman John Patrick "Pato" Gregorio of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for their valuable support and encouragement of Georgina's participation in these prestigious international competitions. Their commitment to nurturing Filipino talent helps provide young athletes with opportunities to compete on the world stage and bring honor to the Philippines.
As Georgina prepares to face the world's finest young memory athletes, she carries with her not only the Philippine flag but also the hopes of inspiring an entire generation to believe that with discipline, determination, and hard work, Filipino youth can compete with the very best in the world.-Marlon Bernardino-
