Jojo Legaspi eyes four squads in JCI Senate Lipa 3X3 Open Rapid Chess Tournament on June 20

Sportsman/Realtor Jose Rafael “Jojo” Legaspi will field four teams in the JCI Senate Lipa 3X3 Open Rapid Chess Tournament dubbed as The Mind Masters Cup to be held on June 20, 2026 at Lasca, Barangay Dagatan, Lipa City, Batangas.

The team champion will earn P50,000, the second will receive P30,000, the third place will pocket P20,000, the fourth will take home P10,000 and the fifth will bring home P5,000.

Sixth to 10th place will receive P3,000 each.

Legaspi doesn’t want to reveal the name of his players at the moment.

“Secret” is a simple reply of Legaspi when he asked about the name of his players on Wednesday.

Legaspi is known as “Coach Phil Jackson” in the Philippine Chess.

He is the instrumental reason why the Toledo-Xignex Trojans won the overall championships of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online chess tournament dubbed as PBA of chess.

Legaspi, an online Arena Grandmaster (AGM) joined forces with Atty. Jeah Gacang, John Signe, FIDE Arbiter (FA) Felix Poloyapoy Jr., and Arena International Master (AIM) Bonn Rainauld Tibod for strengthening the Toledo-Xignex Trojans chess team.

Legaspi also helped the Cavite Spartans owned by International Master (IM) Joel Banawa.

He is also instrumental in putting up the AQ Prime chess team of Atty. Aldwin Alegre, one of the new chess teams in PCAP.

A native of Aklan, Legaspi, an alumni of Dela Salle University Taft Manila is a student of world renowned chess coach the late National Master/International Arbiter Wilfredo Neri.

Legaspi is also a former board director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. -Marlon Bernardino-
