
NM Rolly Parondo rules Thailand FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament

Playing without a single loss, National Master Rolly Parondo Jr. emerged as champion in the Red Knight Chess Club FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament held at the Red Knight Chess Club in Bangkok, Thailand last Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The Oton, Iloilo native Porondo finished the 6-Round Swiss System competition with a perfect 6.0 points to clinch the title.
Parondo defeated Arthica Kijkamjai of Thailand, Nakorn Nakthip of Thailand, FIDE Master Jony Habla of the Philippines, International Master Prin Laohawirapap of Thailand, Gabriel Smit of the Netherlands and Jevgenijus Soikinas of Lithuania.
"I am happy with my performance," said Parondo, a former top player of Rizal Technological University chess team during his College days.
IM Prin finished second with 5.0 points.
FM Habla, Smit, and Kunkhongkaphan Krittaphat of Thailand had identical 4.0 points.
Soikinas, Akash Biswas of India and Suthiponpaisarn Proudpitcha of Thailand occupied six to eight spots with identical 3.5 points. (Marlon Bernardino)
