Barrière and Akdeniz win in Montreal

Wed, 25 Mar 2026 - Canadian heavyweight hope Alexis Barrière returned to action with a win as he stopped Michigan’s Robert Simms in the seventh round of their fight in Montreal. Southpaw Barrière was returning to action for the first time since suffering a fifth round kayo loss against Guido Vianello in October.
Barrière boxed cautiously over the first five rounds with a very defensive Simms making it a poor fight. Barrière picked up the pace in the sixth and in the seventh had Simms trapped in a corner and under heavy fire when the referee stopped the fight.
The 6’4” southpaw makes it 11 wins by KO/TKO.
In a welterweight fight Kurdish/Canadian Mazlum Akdeniz improved to 23-0 with a fourth round stoppage of Canadian Stuart McLellan. A sweet victory for Akdeniz as McLellan had issued racial insults at Akdeniz and spat on him before and during the fight. Akdeniz dominated the fight from the start and drove McLellan to a corner in the fourth and unloaded punches until the referee came in to stop the fight. Tenth inside the distance win for Akdeniz who will be looking to jump into the ratings this year.
