Doncic equals Kobe's record in the Lakers' NBA season opener

Slovenian Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers scored 43 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists in the first game of the 2025/2026 NBA season against the Golden State Warriors this past Tuesday, matching the historic feat of legends like Kobe Bryant and Elgin Baylor. He also became one of the select few players in team history to surpass the 40-point mark in his season debut.
This was the 47th time Doncic has surpassed the 40-point mark in an NBA game and is the third-best performance in a season debut for a Lakers player, behind only Elgin Baylor's 52 points in 1959 and Kobe Bryant's 45 points in 2007, but surpassing legends like Jerry West and James Worthy.
