Woman FIDE Master Jemaicah Yap Mendoza won a bronze medal at the conclusion of 2025 FIDE World Youth G14 Chess Championships in Durres, Albania on Wednesday.

She finished with a total score of 8.5 points in the 11-round tournament.

Actually, Mendoza needs only a draw in the last round to secure the title, but yielded to eventual champion Woman FIDE Master Polina A. Smirnova of Russia using the black pieces.

Smirnova won the gold by virtue of higher tie break points with fellow 9.0 pointers Rukiya Olimova of Uzbekistan who settled for second for a silver medal , winner over Eliza Tereshchenko of Russia.

In the Boys' U14, National Master Phil Martin Casiguran split the points with Aleksandr Timonteev of Russia to score 6.0 points and finished overall 55th place.

The Mendoza trip is supported by the LGU of Santa Rosa City, Laguna while Casiguran is backed up by the LGU of Dasmarinas City, Cavite.
