Former Mexican WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel "Alacrán" Berchelt will return to the ring on October 11 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, to face Venezuelan Edison Perez. The bout marks a significant step in Berchelt's quest for another world championship opportunity.

The announcement was made this past Tuesday by WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán in a meeting with Reynosa Mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz and renowned promoter Fernando Beltrán of Zanfer Boxing.

Mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz is actively promoting boxing by offering classes at the High Performance Center in conjunction with the Municipal Sports Institute.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán emphasized the importance of holding boxing events in such strategic locations. "Hosting boxing events in specific locations has been a great satisfaction," he said. "In Reynosa, there is support and interest in understanding the importance of boxing. There is great interest in taking things beyond just a boxing event."

For his part, Mayor Peña Ortiz highlighted the social commitment that comes with promoting the sport. “We want to work with the WBC to build a better future for young people," he stated. "I ask the boxers to serve as an example to those who come after them. Teach them that in boxing, they can find the discipline to improve their lives.”

The upcoming event promises strong emotions and a positive impact on the children and young people of Tamaulipas, reaffirming the role of boxing as a driver of social transformation.
