The Annual Congress of the Federation of Boxing Commissions of the Mexican Republic (FECOMBOX) recently concluded in Aguascalientes, bringing together 300 participants committed to unifying standards, certification, and providing maximum protection for everyone who steps into the ring.

Under the leadership of FECOMBOX President Juan Carlos Pelayo, the congress strengthened its collaboration with WBC University and its Director, Xóchitl Lagarda, whose presentations were noted for their relevance and quality. The event drew representatives from all 32 states of Mexico, as well as from countries including Italy, Guatemala, Peru, the United States, Venezuela, Colombia, Honduras, and Argentina.

As boxing is the only sport regulated by governmental entities, it demands strict oversight in every aspect of a fight. This includes the issuance of licenses and permits, medical supervision, the appointment of judges and referees, and the validation of official results. Training and uniformity in the rules are therefore crucial to guaranteeing safety and transparency.

Throughout the convention, a range of practical topics were addressed, such as the proper care for knocked-out fighters, the application of bandages, facial trauma management, resuscitation techniques, scoring criteria, and new technologies applied to the sport. A key highlight was the renewed crusade launched against clandestine and dangerous events that promote violence and risk the integrity of participants.

In a move reflecting strong institutional commitment, Pelayo met with María Teresa Jiménez Esquivel, the governor of Aguascalientes, who expressed great support for sports and physical activity in her state. The two also explored the possibility of creating a new state commission to further regulate boxing.

Another highlight of the congress was the fight card promoted by Gerry Saldívar with BXSTRS, which was broadcast in 27 countries through ESPN Knockout, showcasing the reach and influence of the sport.

With the conclusion of this successful congress, FECOMBOX reaffirms its commitment to the professionalization and safety of Mexican boxing. The organization called for continued cooperation to eradicate illegal practices that harm the sport and society.
