Mexican President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman, made a special visit to El Salvador to present the first professional boxing event, including a WBC-sanctioned bout for the FECARBOX regional heavyweight title between Nigerian Kingsley Ibeh (15-2-1 record, 13 KOs) and veteran American Gerald Washington (21-6-1) on September 20th at the modern José Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium, where the 2024 Miss Universe pageant was held.

A WBC delegation included former DEA agent Rocky Herron, an ambassador against drugs and alcohol, renowned judge Joel Campuzano, Salvadoran Andrea Aguilar (WBC ambassador), and San Salvador representative Christian Guevara of the Nuevas Ideas party, among many others.

Sulaimán visited one of the Urban Centers for Well-being and Opportunities (CUBO), located in the IVU neighborhood of San Salvador, once considered a red zone, a place now filled with joy, coexistence, and hope, overcoming the impossible to build a better country.

"It will be a day I will never forget," he stated after sharing recreational activities with local youth and reaffirmed the WBC's commitment to the development of the sport in El Salvador.

El Salvador is experiencing global recognition under the bold leadership of President Nayib Bukele and now aspires to become the host of a new international center for boxing.

The September 20 event will feature five professional boxing matches, including a women's boxing match, and will include a number of talks and seminars, community visits, WBC Cares visits to children's hospitals, public training sessions with fans, and guest champions, among many other activities.
