
Arca to compete in 9th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships 2025 in Zhuhai, China

International Master (IM) elect Christian Gian Karlo Tade -Arca is set to compete in the 9th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships 2025, scheduled from July 20 to 30, in Zhuhai, China.
"I would like to thank the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by its Chairman/President Prospero Pichay Jr., CEO/Executive Director GM Jayson Gonzales, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) thru the office of Chairman Patrick Gregorio and Commissioner Ed Hayco, for supporting me to this tournament," Arca said. "I'm hoping to earn some ELO rating points."
The 16-year old Arca, a Grade 11 student from Panabo City, Davao del Norte in Mindanao recently finished runner-up in the Asenso Ozamiz Open Chess Tournament FIDE Rated Rapid High School Category held last July 12 and 13, 2025 in Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental.
FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri of Escalante City, Negros Occidental won the title. Nouri and Arca, both tallied 8.5 points in nine outings, however after the tie break points were applied, the former took the title.
He also placed second in the 2025 Battle of Philippine Champions also held in Ozamis City which was won by Grandmaster Rogelio " Joey" Antonio Jr.
Antonio finished with 8 points while Arca notched 7 points followed by International Master Michael Concio Jr., Grandmaster Daniel Quizon and International Master Rolando Nolte who got 6 points each.
The Chess Festival in Ozamis City is being held which celebrates its 77th charter anniversary.
Aside from all participants receiving P2,000, Gov.Henry S. Oaminal Sr., Mayor Sam Fuentes, Cong. Ando Oaminal and Cong. Indy Oaminal Jr. of Asenso Pinoy Party list through the Asenso Misamis Occidental Chess Association headed by Arena Grandmaster Rey Urbiztondo double the prizes from the original prize of P505,000 to P1 million plus. -Marlon Bernardino-
