Ruben Castillo, The uncrowned champion passes away

The death of former world title challenger Rubén Castillo has been confirmed following an announcement by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, who shared the information on his social media.

Castillo was born on December 19, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas, and lived most of his life in California.

Castillo was an uncrowned champion, having fought four world title bouts against Hall of Famers such as Alexis Arguello, Salvador Sánchez, Julio César Chávez, and Juan Laporte.

He had a professional career between 1975 and 1997 with a record of 67 wins (35 KOs), 10 losses, and 2 draws, facing opponents such as Alexis Arguello, Salvador Sánchez, Julio César Chávez, Juan Laporte, Héctor Carrasquilla, Antonio Becerra, Rocky García, Oscar Bejines, Francisco Tomás Da Cruz, and Edgar Castro, among others.

Castillo had six children, including twins and a daughter, Misty, who died on her 37th birthday.
