LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (June 27, 2025) — Golden Boy Promotions announced today the signing of the dangerous middleweight blue-chip prospect Amari "The Reaper" Jones (14-0, 12 KOs). A decorated amateur fighter, and now a formidable force in the professional ranks, Jones will hope to make his debut as a Golden Boy fighter soon.

“Thank you to Oscar De La Hoya, Eric Gomez, the Golden Boy team for recognizing my talent and giving me the opportunity and the platform to show it off to the world,” said Amari Jones. “Fighters in my division won’t be able to run from the reaper.”

"Amari is one of the best fighters I have trained since Andre Ward,” said trainer Virgil Hunter. “Amari has all the makings to become a World Champion and stay there."

“At Golden Boy, we hold our fighters to a high standard—and Amari Jones meets every one of them,” said Golden Boy Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “With world-class trainer Virgil Hunter in his corner, the full support of the Bay Area behind him, and the raw talent that’s kept him undefeated, we’re confident no one will be able to avoid him as he climbs toward the top of the middleweight division.”

"Amari has the most potential in the division to be a superstar,” said manager Rick Mirigian. “I plan on wrapping the Bay area around him and have big plans with Golden Boy to support him in the near future with Golden Boy."

Amari Jones is quickly emerging as one of the most promising names in the middleweight division. Representing Oakland, CA, Jones combines natural athleticism with a street-tough edge that gives him a unique presence in the ring. Though boxing was always around him, he initially had his sights set playing football at Clayton Valley High School. Eventually, he shifted focus to boxing full-time, where his power, height and reach advantage quickly began turning heads.

As an amateur, Jones captured several national championships, proving his talent on a national stage before turning professional in April 2021. Since then, he has compiled an impressive record of 14-0 with 12 knockouts, traveling the world with fights in the United States, Australia, Mexico and most recently in Equatorial Guinea. A longtime friend of Devin Haney, Jones has fought on many of Haney’s undercards and benefited from top-tier sparring experiences. His ability to switch between orthodox and southpaw stances adds to his unpredictability and makes him a difficult puzzle for opponents to solve. In June 2025, Jones signed with Golden Boy Promotions, marking a pivotal step in his career and opening the door to bigger opportunities on the world stage. Training under the experienced guidance of Virgil Hunter, who has developed champions like Andre Ward, Andre Berto and Amir Khan, Jones continues to sharpen his game and evolve into a complete fighter. With an undefeated record and ranked No. 13 by the IBF, he’s poised to make a serious impact and bring fresh excitement to the middleweight division.
