IIEE Chessmasters Overall Champion in the International Bundesliga with GM Joey Antonio

A historic feat was achieved by IIEE Chessmasters players of the Philippines winning the overall Championship in Bundesliga Chess Tournament last June 27, 2025 via LiChess. The team bested, among others, The House Discord Server team who is the perennial champion. The House joined the Lichess Bundesliga in April 2020 and since then had the most championship in the league for consecutive 5 years. IIEE have joined in 2023 placed 22nd in the World ranking among 500 teams who have played starting from 18C level and climbing 50 levels to get a crack in the overall championship at level 1. In 2024, IIEE ranked 29th and this year is currently in 13th rank which is well paced with its goal of 20th or better for 2025. The first ever championship by IIEE is made possible by the top scorers as follows: Chester Neil Reyes (88), Narquingel Reyes (60), GM Joey Antonio (57), NM Fritz Bryan Porras (55), Jeremy Marticio (52), Alexis Emil Maribao (50), Nadjeeb Ali (45), Patrick Ismael Credo (44), IM Idelfonso Datu (43), Mark James Marcellana (43), NM Marc Christian Nazario (42), FM Rhobel Legaspi (41), John Benedict Lontok (38), Greg Jobo (35) and Mark Del Rosario (35). Chester is also leading in terms of beating an opponent with lichess blitz rating of >2500 with 28 players so far.

Meanwhile, in the IIEE National Chess Olympiad which is in its 7th season had completed 2 out of 10 rounds of elimination for the 20 teams. After round 2, Mapua, Singapore, PSME and FCPL Qatar have already won 2 level-championships each while UB Checkmate and IIEE Metro Manila got 1 a-piece. The individual top scorers so far are mostly from Mapua team with IM Michael Concio Jr. (48), IM Datu (42), Kevin Arquero (37), Sherwin Tiu (32) and team manager Bren Sasot (26). Other in top 15 are Narquingel Reyes (35), Chester Neil Reyes (32) Adrian Esteva (29) and Jayson Visca (28) of IIEE Singapore, FM Noel Dela Cruz (35) of IIEE Saudi, NM Aglipay 8 Oberio (33) of PSME, Ricardo Jimenez (31) and NM Nazario (27) of IIEE Metro Manila, Adrian Dela Cruz (31) of IIEE Eastern Central Visayas and Patrick Credo (27) of IIEE Bicol. In round 3 on July 4, 2025, ICCF Team effort team of Ronnie Cataroja will battle against the level champions Mapua, PSME and Metro Manila in level 1. FCPL Qatar leading scorer John Tia will banner the team anew together with GM Darwin Laylo, FM David Elorta and NM Bob Jones Liwagon versus Bicol, Mindanao and Eastern Central Visayas in level 2. The Reyes brothers is expected to team up with FMs Mark Bacojo, Alekhine Nouri and Nelson Mariano III for Singapore’s 3rd level championship versus GEP Faeldonia team, IIEE Iloilo and IIEE Northern Luzon in level 3. With GMG of NM Gerald Ferriol re-enforcing the team Laguna to battle in level 4 versus recent level 5 champion University of Batangas checkmate of David Carlo Cabral, IIEE Metro Central and the Las Pinas Chess Club. In the bottom level 5, IIEE Saudi, IIEE Western Visayas, IECEP and Metro east will gun for their first level championship. After each round, the top 2 team will move up in the next level while the bottom 2 will slide to lower level. After round 10, the teams who are in level 1 and 2 will be playing in quarterfinals, with the 4 teams moving to semis and eventually the top 3 will be on Finals on November 28, 2025. The awarding will be held on November 29, 2025 at SMX MOA during the IIEE Golden Annual National Convention and 3EXPO where a face to face tournament will also be held.-Marlon Bernardino -
