LIM, VICENTE TOP BANTON CHESS

Top seed Samson Chiu Chin Lim of III of Manila scored 5.5 in 6 rounds in the open division and Luben Vicente of Sta. Fe, Romblon had a perfect score in the kiddie division to emerge as champions in their respective divisions at the conclusion of 1st Banton Chess Tournament held at the Masonic Lodge Muog Number 89 last April 12,2025.

Lim was awarded P15,000 while Vicente received P3,000. Both players also received trophies and medals.

Lim defeated Jerome Fano in round 1, Yolito Fiedacan in round 2, Richard Pelaez in round 3, Jerry Areque in round 5, and AGM Jan Roldan Oriendo in the final round. He only had a draw against Richie Jocson of Calamba City, Laguna, in Round 5.

Jocson, who actually tied with Lim in the final ranking but eventually landed in 2nd place after the tiebreak was applied, got P10,000, and a trophy.

AGM Oriendo of Marikina City beat Jake Sace in round 6 to bag 3rd place and received P7,000 plus a trophy. Rounding up the top 10 were Nephtali Bantang of Odiongan, Romblon (4th Place), Restito Fetalco of Banton, Romblon (5th Place), Richard Pelaez of Marinduque (6th Place), Christian Jake Sace of Marinduque (7th Place), Jerry Morada of Corquera, Romblon (8th Place), Noe Ramon of Sta. Fe, Romblon (9th Place), and Vance Fajarit of Corcuera, Romblon (10th Place).
Adjudged category winners were Engr. Janito Fetizanan of Banton, Romblon (Top Executive), Yolito Fiedacan of Banton, Romblon (Top Senior) Aldrich Diel Rendon of Marinduque (Top Junior), Angelica Dilim of Quezon City (Top Lady) and Mark King Basbas (Top Banton)

Meanwhile, Vicente toppled Zachary Nevan Flores in round 1, Zac Nathaniel Flores in round 2, Charm Franzane Torrechica in round 3, Earl Selvyn Fonte in round 4, Daniel Dacuya in round 5 and Jay-C Gajar in the last round in the kiddie division. Torrechiva scored 5 points to land in 2nd place. Both Zachary Nevan Flores and Zac Nathaniel Flores scored 4 points to place 3rd and 4th, respectively. Other players in the top 10 were Earl Selvyn Fonte (5th Place), Daniel Dacuya (6th Place), Ezekiel Dacuya (7th Place), Ace Jones Dacuya (8th Place), Jay-C Gajar (9th Place) and Stephen Paul Fortaleza (10th Place).

Jheon Huhbert was Top Under 11 while Von Jeremi Fano was Top Under 9.
