Louisville, KY, April 16, 2025 -- Local boxing prodigy Pryce “The Postman” Sparrow, 2-time national champion as an amateur, will make his professional debut in front of a hometown crowd on Saturday, April 19, in downtown Louisville at The Gillespie.
This Louisville card takes place a week before the Derby and just blocks away from the Muhammad Ali Center.
Roy Jones Jr will be in the corner for two boxers, Seatorius Martin and Marko Szalai.
Tickets for “Fight Night at The Gillespie,” promoted by Roy Jones Jr Boxing in association with Sparrow Boxing, are available at Eventbrite here . The event will be streamed live on Billions.co beginning at 7 pm ET / 4 pm PT.
Sparrow will break into the pro ranks in a six-round super lightweight bout against Gabriel Triminio (1-1) from South Carolina. The Postman is planning to deliver a W. “I don’t really feel pressure to fight in front of the home crowd,” said Sparrow. “This is the beginning of the rest of my life, and I am just so excited to get in that ring on Saturday and put on a show!”
In the co-main event, Seantorius “Hardhead” Martin (10-1, 6 KOs) from Marietta, Georgia, just outside Atlanta, will have Jones in his corner for the first time. Martin will go up against Rommell Toran (2-5, 2 2 KOs) from Ohio in a six round junior middleweight bout. This scrap has somewhat of an SEC feel to it. “I told Roy Jones Jr my story about how I’ve been on my own, working 9 to 5, paying matchmakers to get me on cards and he really appreciated that. So he got me on this card and he’s going to be in my corner and I’m going to prove to him it will be the best decision he ever made,” said Hardhead.
Louisville’s own Ebenezer “Stuntman” Griffith (4-0, 1 KO), who turned pro a year ago in April, will battle Jeremiah “The Prophet” Scott (2-2, 2 KOs), from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in a six-round super welterweight bout.
Marko Szalai (7-1-1, 5 KOs) from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada had an inauspicious beginning to his pro career as he suffered a TKO loss in round two. Marko persevered and has not lost since. This will be the first Szalai-Jones combination also. Szalai will fight Christpher Gunn in a six round super lightweight scrap. “Anthony Brown called me from Vegas and asked to be my manager. He offered to hook me up with Roy as my trainer. We came down to Pensacola about 5-6 weeks ago and I've been here since then. The first day I trained here I already felt this was going to be, where I end up staying. And now I am literally staying there – in a guest house in between his house and the gym,” said Marko.
A few days later Roy agreed to be my trainer and said I could stay here at his residence.
Undefeated Jorge Carlos (9-0, 8 KOs) from Olathe, Kansas, had won multiple national championships as an amateur and has also trained with Manny Pacquiao. Carlos fight Juan Carlos Pena (32-13-1, 23 KOs) from Providence, Rhode Island, via the Dominican in a six round super lightweight bout.
Trainer Roy Jones Jr., formerly recognized as the No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world for the better part of a decade, is now trainer and promoter. The two fighters on the card that Jones trains are part of the more than 15 prospects in his camp. The gym is on his farm in Pensacola, Florida – the same gym Roy trained in throughout his illustrious career.
Boxer Roy Jones Jr. was world champion at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight (undisputed) and in 2003 became the first former middleweight world champion to become world heavyweight champion in over 106 years when he beat John Ruiz to win the title. He was the first boxer EVER to make his professional debut at junior middleweight to go on to become heavyweight champion of the world. As Undisputed Light Heavyweight World Champion, Jones made seven successful defenses. Roy was the consensus No. 1 Pound-for-Pound boxer from mid 90’s thru the early 2000’s.
