PSME Abu Dhabi overall champion in the PTC-WED in UAE

The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) team A of Abu Dhabi chapter captured the overall championship in the Philippine Technological Council’s World Engineering Day (PTC-WED) sportsfest held in Abu Dhabi last March 30, 2025.

PSME won the Chess Mixed Division with Rachelle De Guzman and Wendell Garcia, the Darts Women's Division with Greena Abillon and Jinky Fabian Dizon and the tug of war led by its chapter president Maribel Pascua- Lacondazo.

PSME also landed 1st runner up in Basketball behind the champion, the Institute of Electronics Engineer of the Philippines (IECEP) with Engr. John Art Cruz as MVP and Engr. Randy Domingo as Best coach. IECEP UAE is also champion in Dart single tournament that propel them to 1st runner-up overall in the sportsfest. 2nd runner up overall goes to Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) Abu Dhabi chapter with their championship in sack race led by the Chapter Secretary May Ann Rodriguez and 2nd runner up finish in both the mobile legend and tug of war. The IIEE UAE (Dubai) chapter got the championship on mobile legend and 2nd runner up in Basketball while the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) got the championship and runner-up honor in Chess single. There are total 7 teams which include 2 more teams from Mechanical engineering (PSME-team B and PSIM).

The inaugural Sportsfest in UAE for the PTC WED happened in Sports Hub Khalidiya chaired by IIEE with chapter presidents Engr. Marlon Hipolito (Dubai) and Engr. Gemino Sta. Cruz (Abu Dhabi) with IIEE former Governor Elemer Casao served as emcee. “What an incredible and action-packed event we had at the World Engineering Day Sports Fest 2025. Engineers from different organizations came together, not just to showcase their technical skills but also their sportsmanship, teamwork, and competitive spirit” says Hipolito. “Basketball with unstoppable teamwork, Darts in precision at its finest, chess with brilliant strategies, tug of war not only using sheer strength but team coordination, Sack Race with speed and balance and mobile legends using tactical mastery. Those six events showcase the prowess of participants” says Sta. Cruz. “A Huge Thank You to all. None of this would have been possible without the organizers, volunteers, and all participants who made this event an unforgettable experience. Your dedication and hard work truly brought the engineering community together in the spirit of sports and camaraderie. “ says Lacondazo.

The culmination of the PTC-WED 2025 will be done on April 5-6, 2025 with the 3rd International Technical Conference in Beach Rotana Hotel, Abu Dhabi which will also include Advance Level Engineering Workshop.-Marlon Bernardino-
