MANILA---Grandmaster (GM) Daniel Maravilla Quizon will defend his title in the Kamatyas Rapid Chess Tournament 2025 15th Edition dubbed as "The Infinite Mindstrokes" at the SM Southmall in Las Piñas City on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

"I hope to defend my title," said Quizon, who topped the 14th Edition Year-End Kamatyas Rapid Chess Championship dubbed as Fusion of Flash and Iron last December 14, 2024 at the SM Southmall in Las Piñas City.

GM Quizon pocketed the P30,000 purse and the trophy for ruling the tournament which fielded over 190 woodpushers.

He had an undefeated record after tallying 8.0 points on account of 7 wins and 2 draws in the nine-round Swiss system competition.
GM Quizon also receives a cash incentive of P 1 million from Kamatyas Chess Club after the World Chess Federation (FIDE) conferred his Grandmaster title last December.

Grandmaster Darwin Laylo and International Master Ronald Dableo are seeing action along with 2-time Asian Senior Champion International Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad, National Masters Romeo Alcodia and Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. in this 1-day event organized by International Master Roderick Nava and National Master David Almirol Jr. of Kamatyas Chess Club.

"Once again, we would like to give thanks to our great sponsor Sir David Almirol Jr. for showing us generous support. His love of the game, passion, and how Chess imitates his life is the fuel to continue this incomparable support to our Chess community. We hope to inspire more and more Chess supporters to bring out and discover great players in the Philippines," said IM Nava.

Asia's first grandmaster and chess hall-of-famer Eugene Torre has been invited as special guest during the opening ceremony in the Free Registration and Free Foods 1 day rapid chess tournament, limited to only 200 players.

"After 1 day being posted on the Kamatyas Facebook Page, more than 1,000 have registered, but we apologize that only 200 can be accommodated in the tournament," last word of IM Nava.-Marlon Bernardino-
